Anyone using a "smart" programmable distributor o
Looking at Progression Ignition's smart distributor for small block Buick/Rover 215 Cubic inch V8. Nothing mechanical for timing, all electronic via bluetooth to your phone.

Is it a direct replacement? Any obvious issues?

Isn't there the 123 ignition setup for the V8 to consider as well?

Also if you want to go fancy you should look at converting to Holley Sniper EFI, there is a distributor they have to fits the Rover V8. They you have it all, fuel and ignition.

I did a lot of work on a RRC V8 I had and if you ever needed help I do have a lot of bits and data.

Although I had it all dialled in and it worked perfectly there is something to be said for a stock setup if its a not a car you are daily driving..

Thank you for your suggestions TexasRover.

I was considering using the programmable dizzie to simplify dialing in the V8 for efficiency.

As it is not a daily driver I might keep it stock and embrace the joys of fettling dizzies and carbs....

I run a Mallory unilite distributor with an MSD ignition on my Marcos with the 4L RR engine. It works very well. I have a similar setup on the chevy with an adjustable advance.

The mallory / MSD systems are well worth a look.

We've gone MegaJolt. Cut the V8 distributor in half to keep the oil pump drive and cap it. Add a crank sensor - FORD EDIS - coil packs and a MegaJolt controller. We use manifold pressure to change the timing so can also view performance on the PC dashboard. I'm adding in a narrowband O2 sensor and gauge to look at fuel mixture. Still running a Weber 500/Edelbrock but plan to go full fuel injection at some point. The MegaJolt also has the option to add a temperature sensor to include extra cold start advance which is really good. Message me if you want to know more ...
