Main dealers arent mechanics, they are diagnostic part swappers. My Defender will go to my local indepenedent after the warranty runs out. They are proper mechaniscs. I credit them for making my LRs the most ridiculously realiable cars i've ever owned. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Well to add to the list of main dealer moaners, I have a L663 with the fairly common headlamp drl and halo failure. It’s 8 months out of warranty.

I have to try and get a goodwill replacement from the dealer I bought it new from, what’s the worse they can say? No of course. However after several attempts to even speak to anyone yesterday I’m left feeling that they really do not care.

I could go to my most excellent local independent- Landranger services Stockport, but they will not be able to argue for good will. It will certainly be going to them for service in January.

Dealers are now Censored . They used to be pretty good, but you’re right, you’re paying through the nose for a very shoddy service. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

You're round the corner from me. Land Ranger are great, also Hallam's in Hayfield.

Powerful U.K. sell a repair kit for the halo failure and if you can't do the work yourself l am sure Land Ranger will oblige.

The repair kit is under £100 for two.

To give the dealer a bit of credit.
lt's down to Land Rover to authorise goodwill parts replacement, if they refuse then the dealer isn't going to replace £7,000 of parts at their expense.

Yes I appreciate that. I have to ask though. I’ve spent a lot of money with them, and to be honest, 8 months out of warranty on such an expensive part, when it’s only done 30k miles is a valid question to ask.

Anyway, finally got to speak and it’s booked in at the end of the month. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

l agree as it's also a known fault although the dealer is likely to deny all knowledge, car dealers never take into account internet forums!

lt's the one thing that concerns me about my 2022 Defender....failures outside the warranty. Although mine has been totally reliable so far, l read of someone who had the MHEV battery fail and the repairs cost £14,000.

Same with any modern car of this type though.
