LT230 lock lever positioning
Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone knows if the LT230 lock lever connector bar is supposed to be on the left or the right of the rotating lock selector nut?

In the attached photo, the vertical lever (coming down from the gear stick) is to the right of the rotating selector. (Such that pushing the gearstick to the left, would ‘pull’ the lock selector clockwise into ‘lock’)

(For clarity, the front of the vehicle is to the top right of the image. Right hand drive)

I recently removed and returned the transfer box and reinstalled this bar as shown in the picture. This is how I found it prior to removing the tbox.
But I have seen on YouTube where the lever bar was to the left of the selector. So I’m wondering if there is a certain way that it should be…

Thanks!

There's a photo of a correctly assembled one halfway down this thread:

Thanks blackwolf

Do you know if this is the same across different years/models of defender?

My vertical lever bar is straight, but the one in the thread posted has several links and bends in it.
(Just triple checking it’s not different before I start undoing things)

There are lots of different lever arrangements depending on age of vehicle and gearbox type.

Mine is/was 100% definitely to the right of the selector as shown on your photo

I actually refitted it to the left once (as I mention in the below link) as I was following the photo blackwolf has referenced but I could not get diff lock in this configuration so had to disassemble and reassemble again to the right. Works lovely

It's not the best setup in my opinion. That 'lever' coming down from the shifter is feeble

Interesting stuff. I realise now that the thread I linked to is specifically asking about the TD5, so R380 + LT230 combo, which has a entirely different selector mechanism to the Puma's MT82 + LT230 combo.

The two screenshot below are from the Puma WSM and clearly show the bottom of the selector lever to the offside of the difflock selector link on the transfer box, which I believe is how it should be on a Puma.

My apologies if my earlier attempt to be helpful actually had the opposite effect! Embarassed

Presumably the gubbins inside is the same, so the difference is just a push me pull you rather than a pull me push you > 110 XS Double Cab
