Arb awning and awning room
Need to mount my arb awning with which I will be using the awning room. https://www.arb4x4.co.uk/arb-deluxe-awning...m-x-2500mm

Now I’m wanting to keep the awning as tight to the roof rack as possible will this cause any issues using the room bearing in mind the side of a defender is not completely flat with the wheel arch barrel side and a slight taper in towards the top of the roof. I know it’s only fabric but I worry about the tension and how the walls hang.

Anyone on her use an awning room and how close to the defender is the awning mounted?

Yup I have one fitted and I got it as close as I could to the vehicle. Will take a photo for you, hold on...

Here you go. I do have a roll cage fitted but it is all snug to the bodywork.

Thanks for that. Thumbs Up Been looking online too. The official ARB photos show it spaced off and the room hanging nice and square. Real life photos show a much closer mounting and the room moulding to the shape of the vehicle with varying degrees of success. I’m going to get it as tight to the body as possible then try the room and if I’m not happy I can use some sort of spacer to push the awning away from the body

Having done a lot of advertising and promo photos in the past I can tell you that the problem with the images is that they are almost certainly completely fake Rolling with laughter Made solely to show the product off at its best. Can you imagine an image of the awning room all crumpled up against the side of the vehicle. Really wouldn't look good at all and why the awning in the ARB images has been spaced so far off the vehicle. Realistically the sides do compress up to the vehicle as it is (in my mind anyway) preferable to reduce the amount of draft and rain ingress.

My advice would be to fit it where you think it should go, extend the awning and put the sides on and adjust to or away from the vehicle as appropriate. Everyone's perfect position will naturally be their preference.

Stick up some photos when you are set up Thumbs Up

Oh and one more thing. The awning is quite a light weight item it is definitely worth having some stout pegs or sand bags handy when using it Thumbs Up

The dinky "play" pegs the come with the awning are best used as tooth picks...

Well I offered it up tried both sets of brackets I have and decided nah I’m going tight to the rack and bolted to that. (Cheers brownchurch them galvanising holes were the perfect size and spot)

The room is tight to the body but i don’t see an issue with even the offset tyre and wide rock slider

Bit of a digression, but we had the ARB awning & room before swapping to a 270. It was brilliant, I rather miss it actually and quite often wonder if we should have stuck with it rather than getting a 270.

It was surprisingly good in the wind as there are dozens of tie down / peg down points and it was great having that dry / bug free space to hide away in.

Couldn't agree more. I have camped out in mine when overnighting someplace rural. The only downside is that mine is slightly longer than my arms can stretch out so dealing with the legs is a bit of a faff. Obviously there is now problem with a second pair of hands.
