2003 Defender 90 2.5 TD PU Oslo Blue
MAF Sensor
Ok I need some educating.

I’ve had a long standing black smoke issue which I am finally addressing.

I’ve just changed my Intercooler and the smoke reduced,,, a bit.

Nanocom says at idle the MAF is about 45, so I think a bit on the low side. Floor it whilst stationary and it jumps to about 330 then settles down to about 280.

Pulling the plug on the MAF seemed to give a bit less smoke.

I removed the MAF completely and no smoke.

So maybe I’m stupid but can I simply delete the MAF by extending the hose to the air filter ?

The EGR has already been deleted.

Thanks

You should have about 60 kg/hr at idle. Get a good quality MAF sensor (beware eBay fakes in genuine boxes and aftermarket junk] and try cleaning the MAP.

https://bellautoservices.co.uk/store/td5-air-flow-meter/ Available here and how to test it too.
