Camper Conversion - Pop Top Roof
Picked up truck from Lewis at AW4X4 with pop top roof, a couple of side storage lockers, and the awning attached to the steel frame. Along with the Tintally side folding table, we intend to do the majority of cooking outside, leaving space for other stuff inside, once we get round to phase 2, the interior build. Looking forward to getting out for a trial of the new set up.

What made you choose this pop top over the others on the market?

I chose AW4x4 for a number of reason after reviewing all the options on the excellent pinned thread on this forum, and from following the threads of a few people who had their own pop tops installed.

1. Alucab was too expensive and would have required a trip way down south to fit. I am in Scotland.
2. The German options looked very good but it would have taken time, effort and expense to sort it all out.
3. I wanted to buy British and support small growing businesses.
4. The Drivelodge is cheaper but I wanted something a bit more substantial.
5. Contacting others on this forum who had AW4x4 conversions, who gave good reviews of their set up at the time. I also got some good advice and tailored my own conversion to my requirements.
6. Speaking to Lewis at AW4x4 who answered all of my questions, however daft.
7. Having a few too many beers one night and paying the deposit on the AW4x4 conversion.

Thanks for getting back to me!

You've mad some great points. Just been looking back through some threads on this forum. Definitely a toss up between the Abu and AW4x4. I also like the idea of supporting British and AW4x4 seem to be a great business. Do you plan on installing a roof rack ?

No problem. Happy to help as others helped me. I thought about a Roofrack but I am not planning to install one at the moment. We are doing an off-roading trip up the north of Scotland this summer which involves some technical sections so don’t want to add too much height. We may add a rack if we go further afield in the future. The AW4x4 does allow for a roof rack with the addition of a couple of extra struts. Lewis will keep you right.
