You can sweep the gauges on the diagnostics if I remember correctly, would maybe rule out one or the other. Other than that the wiring as you say or visual inspection unfortunately, it can accumulate rubbish in the void the pump sits in on top of the tank. Is the tank breather broken or cracked?

Thanks Nick - the breather looks okay to me. Albeit do I need to drop the tank to see the end of the breather? There is a fair bit of dirt on top of the tank when I look under the wheel arch. Will give it a wash. Presumably you need a diagnostics tool to sweep the gauges? Thanks
