Drive belt tensioner/pulley squeak
I have been chasing a pulley squeak that sounds like its coming from the tensioner area.

Replaced the tensioner for a new LR one and squeak still present Sad

I know the tensioner has a little peg to locate the tensioner, but is there more than one hole the peg can fit in?

Then I replaced the top idler pulley closest the engine block with a old spare one I had and thought I had sussed the squeak as the noise went, but after a run up the M6 the squeak returned. Ordered a new pulley and squeak still present.

I then proceeded to order and swap the remaining pulley behind the radiator pipes. But on fitting the new pulley, I found I had some wiggle in the pulley despite using the new bolt and washer and also trying with the old washer and bolt - faulty pulley?

Back to the drawing board until I get another pulley. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hi John. It is a real PITA to find these squeaks chirps and groans Rolling Eyes

You can also go super ol' skool and use a long screwdriver to the ear, does the same job just much less comfy Rolling with laughter

But... This has to be my favourite cheap way to diagnose pulley bearings. So simple it'll hurt your head as to why you didn't think of it yourself Rolling with laughter

Hi Guy. Yes it is a PITA to locate the squeaks. I have one more to swap for a new pulley and hopefully thats it.
I do like the idea of the megaphone style screwdriver attachment. 1999 Defender TD5 110
