Amp in the seat box
Has anyone secured an amp in the seat box under the passenger seat?
Any photos on how you secured it in place?

Beware of damp and ventilation in there, but, you’d probably be best off with stand off nylon spacers and a fan in there for air circulation.
Bolt through the base plate, through the stand off spacers.
About 20 or 30mm spacers would be ideal, and then allows for ventilation from the underside and better isolation from panels and moisture. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I’ve been beating amp locations around too. Mixed views on the seat box, especially with the tunnel heat, worse if towing. I see some “pro” installs use that area, I’m still not sold…

Where else?? No room under my new seats. Centre box already replaced with a higher Lucari one.

Under rear seat means you lose functionality..

Keeps me awake at nice this instal plan.. Shafski

It’s not ideal, Class D Amps produce less heat by far, but, also depends on how much their power is too.

Personally, I’d be more worried about moisture build up and damp especially with internal PCB and electronics.
I once used that area for some electronic items that weren’t Amps so heat wasn’t an issue, but when I took it out, the corner of the unit was rusty, so I bet the internals weren’t looking great in that unit.
And funny enough it had stopped working prior to removal, so that is quite telling.

One idea might be to use a Marine Amp, if that area must be used.
Personally, I’d stick to using Marine electrical items in those locations where possible.

There is variable temperatures to consider as well, in summer in a contained area, on top of the added trans heat I can imagine it getting extremely hot likely over 40.C+, as heat rises, I’d imagine installing a fan or two in the removable lid, with a removable connector like a 2 pole Superseal would be possible.
Stinger do some nice, quiet, low current draw, air ventilation fans, many Amps have a thermal cut out anyway for safety, but, also means the Amp will shut down too and isn’t ideal in my opinion longevity wise.

This is really interesting. Thanks for the replies.

Currently my amp is bolted in the seat box but to the underside of the removable lid. It's as high as possible but, when removing the lid is a faff. And I also have had to leave long tails on the cables so I can move the lid when I need access to the seat box.

Since I have some new Lazer spots to wire in, I was wondering if there was a better location or position for the amp. It's only a small JL audio amp which I have.
