Thumbs Up

It's always interesting to see what they've been up to.
Some of these guy were on a trail run I did at Easter Jeep Safari, 5 years ago. The little jeeps were so light, nimble and very well driven, fantastic to watch. They kept up with modern vehicles on trick suspension and massive tyres. Very Happy

That's Stan Fuller standing on the trail, and Bam-Bam the 1943 Willys in the middle.

thanks for posting. I enjoyed watching those. Are any of the vehicles stock or do they all have a super modified drivetrain / engine with a classic shell on top?

I wondered about difflocks or LSD, as one view shows one of the vehicles with all 4 wheels slowly spinning.

Engines, some are stock, Grampa's Jeep and Sweet Pea the s1 80". Others are modified, Bam-Bam has a V6, the 88" s1 has a V8.

I believe all the vehicles in these videos run diff locks in the axles, either automatic locking or selectable. You can hear air compressors running a few times for diff actuation. Extra low gearing seems to be a preferred, in the transfer box and/or the axles. The axles are either standard or heavier duty items from later vehicles.
The axle diff locks are the single thing that make the biggest difference to keep moving, or spin all tyres until they find grip.

The impressive part is they look standard or lightly modified. They run leaf springs, no massive lifts. The tyres are 7.00 or 7.50 cross ply, not modern big & fat radials at extra low pressure. They are still 70 or 80 years away from the Jeep Rubicon that was following them. Thumbs Up
