I always take out GAP. For the sake of a few hundred quid, why wouldn't you? Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Remember in most cases it has to be taken out in the first six months of first registration. lt does mean you're paying six months when the insurance company will still give you new for old, but it's difficult to find companies that will do GAP insurance on a 12 months old vehicle

ALA are okay but they struggle with the Defender "Commercial" because being a Commercial Vehicle it's not in the car price guides.

l called them several times over a period of weeks and after three months am still waiting for their promise of a return call after they've "referred it to the underwriter"

Not sure if this is new but NFU provide gap for 24-months as standard.

The O/P hasn't posted since he started this thread. He should have found out by now if the vehicle is a write off.

It had done nearly 90,000 miles so hopefully GAP insurance was in place as that mileage would definitely hit the value quite hard.
