Winch Question/opinions

Forgetting the cost and if you needed it or not, if you had the opportunity to fit one of the following winches to your truck would you go for either:

A Warn 8274 or
A Red Terrier Hydraulic Winch which is PTO driven

The winch in question will be used for self recovery and winching tree butts and probably anything else that could be winched, just because...

both have pro's and con's as I see it, so it's a split decision Nick

I've always had a Warn HS9500i ... Very good!
But I have two friends that have/had 8274 for over 10 yrs and they're great ... never broke down! they're serviced regualrly and work fine ...

about the hidraulic one never tried Regards

given the choice, the hydraulic.

If its for work,, trees etc,, i would say hydraulic , will just pull all day, look at Mile Marker, or Red Winch

Have 4 or 5, 8274's from bog std, to twin overvolted motors ones, great winch for competition !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Well if you have a hydraulic winch you need drive and space to put it! (resivor etc)
Electric is more compact and can run without drive!

As you say both are good in different ways. Will the hydraulic work if you tair a line? Will the electric work is some one nicks the motor? Russell

Why would you tear a line?
Anymore than if you tore a power cable??

If not hydraulic then pto mechanical winch is just the dogs danglies

hydraulic for commercial ie tree pulling

8274 for competition as its versatile ans spares are easy to come by

tds for anything else. Cheers
