Best performance intercooler for 2.4 tdci
Hi All,

In the process of refurbishing engine. While it's out, i think it makes sense to fit a performance intercooler for a remap down the road. I've seen there are quite a few out there from Allisport and empire tuning.

Does anyone have any view as to which is best or is there not much in it.

Cheers.

I don't think there is much in it, I got mine remapped by BAS so I bought their intercooler at the same time, it's big and seems to work ok.

I'd choose who you want to buy the remap from and then buy their intercooler

If possible, I'd look at getting one with Cast end tanks as these should be less prone to cracking around welds on the end tanks.

They're all a significant improvement over the standard item and for 99% of us, I'd say they're all pretty much interchangeable. I've only got experience of the BAS and Airtec ones(both have cast end tanks) but in reality I doubt you'd be able to tell which intercooler (from any of the uprated ones from the main suppliers) was fitted from the drivers seat.

Think the BAS ones don’t seem to split on the weld like some others.

Thanks everyone, I'll talk to BAS to see if they have any in stock.
If not then the AIRTEC seems to be the next best with cast ends.

On my 2.2 with aircon I found the BAS IC to be a very good fit, all you have to do, as with many other larger IC’s, is trim a redundant piece of plastic bracket off the main coolant radiator. BAS provides full instructions with diagrams.
I would also recommend fitting new BAS silicon hoses if you don’t have them already.
