British Pathe film footage of production line
I hope this has not been posted before. There is some lovely old Land Rover footage from about 6 mins onwards. Makes me misty eyed! Some great shots of production line.

What a cracking link, just have to smile at the H&S concerns of the day......... If you didn't die then it must be safe Laughing Watching the journalists bouncing about in the back of the 109 pick up round Packington on the launch Laughing Then there's the chap with the hydraulic chain saw up in a tree lopping off a tree limb Shocked safety gear, yeah well he'd tied his bootlaces Laughing This brings back memories of my old man telling me stories of the Chaps from Solihull coming out and testing motors and equipment around Chadwick End and Packington where some of that clip was filmed Cool

Interesting to see all those Series Twos with no indicator lights fitted - the back view with the unused lamp position always looked odd.

I think the chainsaw is pneumatic rather than hydraulic, but either way is totally unsuitable for use as shown!

I like the Series 1 station wagon that is masquerading as a Series 2.

Does anyone know where the ford shown in the film is? The house is Chadwick Manor, Knowle, (which is now converted into falts, and has also lost the hideous art nouveau construction on the back, as well as the pond) so presumably the ford is nearby.

A lot of press shots were taken near Chadwick End and also at Packington Hall(just up the road from the factory) My old man used to work on the Packington estate and told me about the sand ladders that were put across one of the lakes so that the works drivers knew that they were 'safe' to wade across!! The estate also used to be used for research and development of Nuffield tractors. The old chap said that when they wanted a new tractor they used to drop the implement into the ground and turn sharp right and the lift arms would snap off!! The R&D department would come out with a new 'improved' tractor and take away the broken one Laughing
