Side window guards - internal or external
Hi,

Looking at pros and cons for guards on rear side windows on a 110 CSW, and any recommendations.

Have looked around at posts and also at MSS, Ore, bison, nakatakatnenger.

Leaning towards internal. My thinking is that internal provides some space to strap things on?

Also, I presume external you will have to drill into the body work, which I prefer to avoid. Is that the case internally?

Obviously, also still want them to open!

Any further points to consider?

As usual, input always appreciated to help in decision process.
May have to post in wanted section..!

External also makes window cleaning very hard, and also will “test” the durability of the finish.

A personal opinion but I recon external guards look a bit poo. And you have to drill the sides so no turning back.

I am fitting internal ones because, as you say, you can hang or strap stuff on and if you decide to sell the car or change configuration at any time it is less involved.

Another vote for internal window guards

The other thing in the favour of internal guards is that any lose loads in the vehicle will not hit the window (however is all should be tied down but life happens !) - this is what they are designed to do along with security and the likes ..

you'll find internal ones are better but most are external only versions.

outside they rust, inside less so

on the last two we built we converted som externals to fit inside and made them removable so we could clean the windows.

I quite like the expedition look, especially on a dark colour vehicle, but agree they'd be hard to wash and the powder coating would fall off. They'd definitely be much handier inside to tie things in place.

I always carry a roll of duck tape in case a window breaks, I did have one go out green laning once, how I don't know, it was the one by the back door and I wasn't anywhere near any trees, but tape filled the hole.

beware of using vents in wet and cold climates, as they cause condensation on the inside of your windows which can be difficult to get rid of.

I have vents in my rear windows .... but only in the good summer months, remove them in the winter.
Just used for airflow.

Thanks for all the comments and heads up on eBay.
Been out of action last couple of days
Internal it is then:- do they get screwed into the body work or just trim.
Hate drilling into capping; just doesn't seem right!

Now this is solved, next post is about dog guards...again, help welcomed!

If it is Mantec ones they attach to the trim. I believe MSS ones go under the trim and fix to the sides.

I have instructions for mantec ones. I can take a photo of them and send to you if it helps.
