Injector cleaners/ fuel additives
Just curious, I used to regularly add Stanadyne diesel additive to my 300Tdi and it ran quieter with it. Does anyone use anything in your Td5? If so, what do you use? I have added nothing to my diesel for nine years of Td5 ownership (regular maintenance and service excluded๐Ÿ˜‰).

I acquired a TDCI earlier this year with 100k and a patchy service history
I bought a bottle of Forte injector cleaner from LR Parts and I'm sure it runs a lot better now but I'm not sure if it's just imagined.
I thought it was worth trying it

There's a video on Youtube if you want to take a look

I put 300ml of 2 Stroke oil per tank full in mine (should be 375ml but my little bottle is only 300...๐Ÿ˜).

I just started using the Millers Diesel Power Eco Max. Time will tell if it does good or not. On a 2.2 btw. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I had and issue with rough running (rattle and smoke) and a fuel pump fail which I put down to using cheaper supermarket diesel. Since fitting a new fuel pump Ive been adding Millers Oils Diesel Power Ecomax Fuel Treatment regularly and the engine has been running better then ever. Td5 15P.

Once every year, circa 5k miles I use forte diesel injector cleaner. Then Millers diesel ecomax treatment every time I fill with diesel.
The engine does feel like it appreciates it, which may be a placebo effect, but given the costs of the above is a drop in the ocean compared to yearly fuel costs Iโ€™m happy to do it.

Notice you're in Canada also,

Since having my Td5 over, and we also have a BMW 328d, I put a dose of Hot Shots Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment in with every fuel fill up for both. Has very good ratings in Canada and USA.

In the UK I used Millers additive, but they don't seem to export. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

My 2.4 TDCi had become even more rattly than usual recently (at just under 270k miles) and in particular had developed a heavy rattle at 2000 rpm under certain combinations of throttle and boost, a rattle which was similar to the phenomenon known as "pinking" on older petrol engines. I was gearing up to an injector change, on the theory that they've never been out and each one has injected around 2500 gallons of diesel, but I thought I'd try a shot of Forte injector cleaner first, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.

So on Saturday before filling the tank I emptied a bottle of Forte into it. Some 200 miles.later and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me what a difference it would make! The pinking rattle has gone, the normal injector noise is massively reduced, and the vehicle feels smoother and more free running. I am frankly stunned at how effective it seems to have been, and am definitely a convert.

If I'd tried it before buying a set of brand new injectors I could have saved nearly a grand!

Good to hear itโ€™s worked for you Blackwolf, Iโ€™ve used it on petrol engines with high miles and they ran much smoother and sailed through MOT emissions tests. Hence I use once a year in my 2.2 now.

Yes, I do feed Miffy (TD5) additives from time to time. A few reasons, the ultra low sulphur diesel is supposed to be quite drying and the other reason is to reduce the opportunity of growth within the tank. That fuel pump pre-filter can foul up.

I have used 2-stroke oil, Millers and whatever is on offer at the time. Any difference?! Meh... hard to tell and hard to prove anything really. The only things I will say is that the pump pre-filter was disgusting before I began treating the fuel and on last inspection it was beautifully clean and clear of growth. All I can think is that the pump will thank me. And the fuel economy is still as good as it ever was.

Now... In Phoebe (Freelander 2 TD4) with her variable geometry turbo the additives do make a huge difference and keep that lovely turbo working as it should.

Iโ€™m another Miller Ecomax user, I use it in both my diesels and it immediately makes them run quieter and smoother.

Interesting.
Do you use the additives on Premium Diesel (like BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power, Total Excellium, etc.) or on Standard Diesel ?
I am tempted to think that additives on Standard Diesel is more or less the same as Premium Diesel alone.

I stick to Premium Diesel for my Puma 2.4. And think that adding more additives would be too much. But happy to listen to what others have to say.

Hi Mat. I only use additives on standard diesel and that is because that is all that is available around me.

You do the best with what you have access to, right?!
