Loss of power and then clutch failure!
So I had a strange thing happen today … after some off roading I was happily on my way home when 2 things happened

1. I couldn’t get above 50mph in any gear, even in 6th
2. My clutch failed.(stuck to floor)

Luckiky I was only 100m from home so managed to limp home.

I had a new lof road spec clutch and genuine slave fitted just a few months ago so I doubt (hope) its not those…

Are they 2 things connected? Could I have knocked one thing off roading that caused it? Could the master cylinder have gone? Does anyone have any ideas?

It’s off to the garage for a service on Monday so I’ll ask them but any starters would be appreciated

Thanks Ed.

Not sure which puma engine you have but I've got the 2.2l and it has a clutch position sensor on the master cylinder.. If that were to fail or stick in the actuated position then you would likely suffer a loss of power..
The pedal could be a master cylinder issue but could also be an issue with your slave.. Is it the concentric type.. Afraid I don't know the various variants, only mine..

Thanks. Yes I have the 2.2

I’m going to change the master so hopefully that could be the solution. (I have a lof assist one I’m waiting to fit but was advised not to fit at the same time as the new clutch)

I’m really hoping it’s not the slave since that’s a big job to replace and it’s just been done!

Hopefully an easier and cheaper fix than gearbox out!

Yes, I know what you mean.. I've just done my clutch and basically replaced the lot.. Master and slave
Hope you get sorted, but it's odd your pedal won't return if you have fluid and no leaks..

It will return if I pump it. That’s how I managed to get it to limp home. But it quickly sticks.

This was the symptom when the slave went a few months back so I’m really hoping it’s just the master! Will let you know how I get on.
