Remote start
Obviously the Defender has remote start with the app.

lf the vehicle has been started with the app and someone breaks in to it, say by smashing a window, will it drive without the key being present? lf so you'd have to be careful where the vehicle was when you used this facility.

No. I believe you have to get in it and press the start button whilst having the key in range

I'll try it without the key, but it'll be a two step process because I'll have to unlock it with the key. The app requires me to lock the Defender before it will allow me to start it. It's a shame that there's no way for the app to lock and start it in one step, but these primitive smartphones just aren't up to the task.

Even with the key, it switches itself off after a while if you enter and don't depress the brake pedal. (I assume it checks for the key when this happens too).

As soon as you depress the brake to engage in to gear the vehicle will shut down without the key.
