But in the 4x4 owners defence, the council didn't say no vehicles.

Maybe this need to be clarified in the rules & regs

And they left leaving no trace. no issue then? if the tide washed away their truck then that's their loss.

rule of thumb, when wild camping, is leave no trace. Which is what they did, normally wild campers setup normally quite late on. To me the family didn't do anything wrong, ok they got a warned about the tide. But looks like they had already researched the area before hand anyway. They left no trace and no damage so i cannot see any trouble. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Sadly it’s endemic all across the highlands, with people thinking they can park up and camp wherever they like. Not helped by companies that hire 4x4s with roof tents etc. to visitors and are less than honest about the legal position.

In Scotland you do have the right to roam but this site was a SSSI. The locals wouldn’t do it so it would be more respectful to be more considerate.

We do have the right to roam - but not by car. If you want to wild camp you can’t legally do it from the boot of your car. It doesn’t really matter if you leave no trace, you still shouldn’t be doing this. The problem might not be these individuals, but the next lot who come along and are “inspired” by this - but leave all the cr*p behind them.

For me, Retro has it right - so many suppliers and marketers selling the image of camping in remote spots without explaining that it just isn’t legal in our country. If folk see these images often enough, then it’s likely that at least some will assume it’s OK to go where they will. Donald
