Switches
Hi , fitting a work light to my 2014 puma ,wiring all in now but have found the bearmach switch is sticking when used in place of blank on top left of dash but is ok when not in position.has anyone found this as it appears to be the dash hole squeezing the switch.hope I’ve explained the problem well enough. Crying or Very sad

Is it a really hard push to fit in place compared to the blank?

If so you may need to remove the "key" tab from the body of the switch so it goes in square and not wonky Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Sorry, it appears to push in ok and not skewed but the button pushes in to turn on but when pushed to turn off doesn’t return out,but when I try the switch out of the dash it works fine so your suggestion that there are “lugs”or guides to remove makes sense just not sure what they are. Thanks for your help and patience,I’m a bit new to working on defenders.have ordered a genuine YUG000540LNF from John Craddock as I understand the bearmach part is a copy and not as good as LR oem part the colour is a better match on the dash as well( bit ocd)

Hi,Martin lights are now working fine with switch.have fused the supply to light 40w led which by my calculation is 3.3 amp draw so 5amp fuse should be fine.i haven’t fused the switch live to operate the relay as it’s only low current and cig socket is fused already although it’s only used to charge phone or gps.does this all sound right as you seem very knowledgeable in these matters.

I think you've used a bit of a hybrid of the heated seat switch YUF500150LNF and the spot light switch wiring. Shocked

Did you follow a diagram which came with the switch?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

After looking at other relay wiring and switch wiring I realised the switch simply connects 1 (s/live)to 4 (out to relay 86),then 85 on relay goes to ground to complete the circuit activating the relay switch to connect battery live (fused) to 87( the light and 5 on the switch to illuminate the red “on” indicator). The 2 pin on the switch simply goes to the other backlight wires on the other dash switches. This enabled me to house the relay and fuse under the driver seat and just run two wires up to the dash(to connect pin 4 and 5) as the dash light (2) and s/live (1) were already there . So it’s essentially the same as other diagrams that just use the switch to complete the relay trigger circuit.

Checked out the thread you showed me and realised the switch simply connects the ground/ earth on the switching side of the relay so altered the wiring to reflect that, all works and is fused correctly 👍

Great, I haven't worked it out but I think you may have had a problem with your old wiring where the dash illumination would have triggered your relay Laughing  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
