Fuel gauge accuracy
Hi is there a way of making the fuel gauge on my 1990, 90 more accurate. After my recent trip to Scotland I found myself getting flustered at fuel levels, especially when we were no where near a petrol station. It would hover at midway , drop and then at times drift back up to half way. So when I get to the last quarter (orange section ) of gauge I have no idea how many miles I have left. 1990 200tdi conversion 90

I would guess the gauge or the sender is faulty rather than it is a design fault.

If it were a design issue then I would expect to see more complaints on this forum.

Just got back myself from Scotland .... awesome place, love it!

I'm guessing the senders are the same design as most of that era. Bits of wire wrapped around a plastic bit. The wires wear through and gives all sorts of wild readings.

Here's one from my mini last year, I expect the same thing has happened to the sender in yours.

Hello dioliahary

My 300tdi fuel gauge was also...shall we say 'vauge', initially I tended to rely on the trip millage gauge to give me an idea of what was left in the Defender. The habit has stuck around with the Puma, and for my 90, under normal driving I can rely on just over a 300 mile range if need be.

On our first 'adventure' I loaded up Jerry can, which did wonders to provide the feeling that you were actually heading off into the wilderness, but in truth, I have only used it once to help another motorist (mid winter in the Lakes) but the fact you have it... absolutly take away the anxiety of will she or wont she make it to the next filling station.

20lts / 3.2 gals = 80 Miles Thumbs Up
