defender 300tdi will only start when we bump start it
hello,

i bought a parts defender 300tdi and it will only start when we bump start it...
if i start it with the key it turns fast, but the engine does nothing, even not hesitate to start
any idea what the problem could be?

thanks

Check that the fuel cutoff solenoid receives power when cranking. If the wiring has been messed with or the wrong ignition barrel switch been fitted it might not.

i'll check that with a voltmeter, but why does it run when we bump start it?

If starter is faster then expected, the gear maybe damaged or not engaging on the throw or starter ring teeth missing

working on assumption - the engine does nothing, so its not turning over. Cheers

because you presumably do not have the key in the crank position when bump starting it.... 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Not starting
Sometimes the fuel has flowed backwards. For example if you run out of fuel a pull often will start a reluctant runner. I know this from experience.

I had the 300 version of the discovery, you can manually operate the pump and bleed the fuel system as I remember and that can rule out the fuel system.
