Ok, Cheers for the idea Gazman.
So, disconnected the coolant pipes from the fuel cooler. Did the pump prime thing and liquid came out the top coolant pipe! I had just filled the car with water so difficult to tell if it was just water but I think it had diesel in it. Anyway the car wasn't running just the pump priming so why would that have made the water come out of the coolant pipe unless the pump pressure was somehow getting into the cooling system!! So if the fuel rail in the head was knackered would that allow water into the cooling system or is it the head . . . . but with no other symptoms! Help |

if it was me I would disconnect the coolant pipes in and out to the cooler and do it again. That way you are seperating the head and cooler. if the cooler leaks it's that, if the water comes out of the pipes it's the cylinder head. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Why would doing it again make any difference?

My head gasket went a while back, only way I knew was my coolant slowly dropped in level/heater stopped working and the cooling system retained pressure long after the engine had cooled. No loss in power, no white smoke, nothing that indicated any problem whilst driving. Cost about £1000 all-in including VAT. Head off, skimmed, new gasket etc.
