My First Defender
Spent a while looking for the right Defender,
Now I feel like I have up and took the plunge in the deep end!!
88 on an F with 120k miles on the odo, has a few bashes but that's to be expected.
It's going to be my weekend toy, and gets more looks when plodding around than a Pagani Zonda!!
Love it!!
It was below my budget , so gives me some spare cash to get it just right.
I know it's a bit apocalyptic looking, but some changes planned for it.
Looks a bit big next to my daily runner!!

Lovely looking 90!!! Theres lots of events taking place across the central belt to make use of it.
I'm assuming you work at the Newbridge based main dealer?

Morning John , yeah that's right. Great squad to be working for and with.
I have a massive amount of learning to do having moved from Toyota and having never owned a RR or LR before.
I'm away for my three day course down at the factory and LR Academy in two weeks.
Should be good getting to drive the entire range off road and the new Discovery Sport too!!

Thanks for the warm welcome lads.
I think I'm quite fortunate having a wealth of knowledge where I work to help me out when I need it steep learning curve ahead but some fun times too I hope. Hopefully catch some of you soon.

Quite a change from Toyota, bet you're looking forward to getting into it elbow deep the new Disco Sport looks good be interested to see a real review of it.

Have you met Richard Blyth the part manager? He's been offloading for a long time.
We were both were members of SLROC for a number of years, they hold different types of event all across this area, the fun days and tyros are a good place to start and you can get the family involved too as the fun days normally have a kids course!!

I have had 2 110s from Newbridge (the first being the silver 62 plate with the big winch which was still on the forecourt last time I was in) and my current one which was the black 63 plate demo 110.

Got well looked after by Robert Mitchell & Ross Hutchison during all the back & forth!!

Need to watch out for you if I'm through in the east Thumbs Up

Cheers

Hi john, was just chatting to Richard about my 90 a half hour ago!!
Roberts still here and knocking cars out. Ross is also still here, and a nicer chap to work with I couldn't wish for

Enjoying my time here and it's a relief to get up in the morning to be excited to get in to work in the mornings.

If I'm allowed to , I will get some photos of the off roading and of the New Discovery Sport when I get a chance Wink

It's due it's MOT next week so one of the Lads in here who has a few of them , some fully restored and some for playing with , is going to get it up on the ramp tomorrow morning for a check up .
So I will find out tomorrow exactly what I have bought!! Confused

Fingers crossed it's not a total mess , though I do expect to have to spend a few quid on it. To say it's a bit nervous to drive at speeds over 20mph is an understatement, it feels like it's going to swerve across the road and needs two hands on the wheels at ALL times !
God only knows how my mate managed to drive it at 80 on the M6 , needless to say he has bigger balls than me and I'm owe him plenty beer for the favour! Lol

Just a wee bit of play in it Shocked You might find that the wider tyres will eat the bearings a bit quicker than standard, but as it's not a daily driver for you that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I once had a bearing go about 10 miles south of Tain on the A9, I wasn't a member of the AA or RAC or anything like that, but just as I was getting out to investigate having pulled in to a side road two members of Highland Constabulary pulled up & asked if I needed assistance?! I got them to give me the number for RAC and AA, & they also popped back later on to check I'd been seen to and was awaiting recovery back to Inverness. That was one expensive wheel bearing, when you factor in an unscheduled B&B night, a day shopping in Inverness with the girlfriend at the time, and the hours the garage spent getting the bearing off as it had fused together with the heat buildup. Mark S

Yeah, telling me. I never asked but quietly confident that the other side will be the same.
I have been recommended to fit a discovery axel and diff in as replacement instead of just sorting the bearings problem out. Makes sense?
Will a Discovery axel be a bit tougher with better/bigger bearings to take the stresses??
I don't doubt the lad who checked it for a second, I just like to know what's what. Lol

Cheers
