Offset Steering Wheel Spacer
Afternoon All,

1st post - great forum and was great use to me in researching prior to purchasing my Defender.

I was googling other Defender stuff and found by chance an offset spacer to go behind a 6-bolt steering wheel... to lift it up higher for better knee room (in the straight ahead position). Obviously worse with 180deg of lock on Wink

I cant remember where on earth I saw it, i have done loads of searches but cant for the life of me find it. All searches end up in discussions about wheel offset as in rims and tyres....

Thanks
Mike

Do you mean something like this? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.do?m...GwodnEoD9Q RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

Hi,

No that is just a concentric spacer... it shifts the wheel out but inline with the steering column.

The one I saw moved the wheel out by say 1", but also up towards the windscreen by half an inch or so. Down side that the wheel is lower when you then the wheel around 180deg.

Cheers
Mike

I must admit that I thought this was an April fool until I saw the actual item advertised!

MaxRPM...Me too... don't know if I like the idea of the Steering Wheel 'nodding' down left and right
when turned...It would look to add another level of vague Defender Steering IMO... Shocked SKIP

It seems a bit counter intuitive when you first come across the idea, but I've seen plenty of standard road car steering wheels where the rim is not concentric with the hub from the factory. Certainly some Citroens when they used to have one spoke, and some others I've seen but don't recall the brand. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Well normally we like to try things out for ourselves first rather then just take manufacturers word for things..

Now the Raid offset/eccentric will give approx 10mm offset approx up, down, left, right.

Now we have one fitted to our white 90 with the offset to the left/inwards which gives us more elbow room for drivers right elbow.

For the majority of the time your steering wheel are pointed straight ahead. I have never noticed the steering wheel not being concentric when doing large turns.

If you suffer from fat thigh syndrome you could have the steering wheel effectively 'lifted' by 10 mm when driving straight ahead however 180 degree turn of steering wheel 10 mm lower.

Designed to fit Raid steering PCD.

I'm pretty sure the original wheel is offset anyway with the top of the rim being further from the centre than the bottom of the rim.
