Focal Speakers, or not.
Evening all,
I had planned to replace the speakers in my Tdci with Focal ISN100 components in the front and PC130 rear, following all the recommendations on here. Just recently both Mud Stuff and Road Radio have dropped the ISN100 from their websites, it looks like they're not available. That leaves me wondering what to fit in the front, PC100 with the std factory tweeters or maybe something from another brand - in which case I'd want the rears to match. I don't want to end up spending 500 on speakers and amps. Already have the factory Alpine sub.

Has anyone fitted 4" and tweeters in the front recently? What did you fit and how are they?
Thanks.

I've been thinking about the same recently, and assumed the focal 100 KRS should be okay, although slightly more expensive.

Before shelling out over 200 on the front speakers, I'm also very intested to hear what others recommend. Now gone - 2012 2.2 110 DC XS

I went for Pioneers, can't remember the model numbers. They do some which fit in the underdash (300tdi) with the spacer rings from mud and then the 5" version of the same elsewhere. I'm still contemplating a sub but generally get away with out quite happily. Total cost for all four was if I remember correctly less than 100 4 years ago. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I wouldn't get too excited about trying to fit some Focals
I would go for a good quality 13 cm mid range speaker & a tweeter combination but make sure you have separate cross overs.
Don't fit a a full range 13 cm speaker.
I fitted a Phoenix Gold active sub with all of this married to a 100 kenwood head unit ( hands free ,different colour display , single slot cd & BT).
The whole set up cost me 300 approx.

Now back in the early 90's I had one of the best car hifi companies in the U.K. - I am absolutely staggered how good this set up is. Back then to replicate what I have got now would have cost at least 2k & none of the functionality of hands free etc.

Did you need to cut the dashboard to fit 13cm speakers in the front? Now gone - 2012 2.2 110 DC XS

So what are the practical differences (if any) between the ISN 100 and the ES 100k (except around 55)? Upgrading the sound is on my list (along with many, many other things!)

DSC-off - there seem to be a couple of places with ISN 100s left but they're higher priced than the out of stock places - which is why they have them left I guess.

Yes, you do need to.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that Focal are in the middle of revamping their range, so now might be a good time to wait and see if anything else arrives. Also the new stuff that is out isn't available at a good discount yet.
I'm sure the 100KRS or ES100K will be fine speakers and an easy fit, the only problem being the price 210/250.

While I don't want to cut the dash to fit 5", the 130KR is very tempting at 140.

I believe Barbel Jim has these, and as Steve says they're a tight fit.

Does anyone know of a dealer with a demo Defender that I could listen to? A trip to the Scottish LR Show might be on the cards.
Cheers.

I spent a ton of time listening to different speakers including focal. Everyone's ear is different but I ended up going with Hertz. I have been extremely happy so far.. 1999 Defender 110

Mr. Green

140 is cheaper than I paid Big Cry Worth every penny especially at that price.
No spacers, easyish to fit, The air duct passenger side had to be persuaded about 10mm with the hot air gun. I use them with a Focal Ibus2.1 in the puma...... 40000 miles and really happy Mr. Green

Hmm - very interested in these!

Did you have to open up the hole or do they fit straight in - passenger air duct persuading aside? 110 UW - '15 2.2

I had to open up the original hole, both sides, measure twice cut once, relatively easy.I used a Fein cutter, but a dremmel would work just as well
