Sawtooth Wheel - OEM or After Market, Which Is It
Hi All

Have five sawtooths on the old girl and I'm thinking of going to Bowler instead
Are the wheels genuine OEM or aftermarket? Sure somebody said you could tell on here
Depending on which, what is their value on the second-hand market? Wheel only x5
They are 16" by the way
Depending on what I get, depends if I go for the Bowlers

Many thanks

Definitive way to check is to remove one and check that the LR logo is embossed on one of the spoke faces. Instagram: l90andy

From what I have seen on Ebay, these can go for a good few quid, and that's second hand too! I am looking for a set for mine. Due to me having 15" rims on and a 16" spare steelie. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it!

Just did a sold listing search on ebay and used aftermarket have sold for £75 for one without tyre and another sold listing was for 5 without tyres which went for £300.

As for the used genuine article, the only listings which have sold recently are sets of 5 with with tyres too. The ones with MTRs have sold for £1275 and another set with BFG ATs went for £1450.

New genuines have sold for £125 ea which seems very dubious and is probably an aftermarket chancer who ommitted the word 'style' in the advert or more realistically, somewhere around £1100 for 5 - all without tyres (more realistic). Phil

I think those prices are a little optimist, although I may be wrong...

I've been looking for some Sawtooths for a while and even asked Ducksworth for a quote, the quoted me £1180 inv VAT and delivery for a brand new set of 5.

Looking at a few examples of ones that have recently(ish) sold on here, the prices seem to be between £750 - £950 inc postage depending on condition and speed of sale Thumbs Up

£750 (slight damage on the 'unseen side' to one wheel) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50530....e+sawtooth

£950 - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40293....e+sawtooth

Not optimistic as they are sold listings, meaning someone listed them and they sold at those prices.

This is not to say they may have been fortunate and found an unsuspecting buyer willing to pay over the odds (if that is the case) but fact is they sold at that price Smile Phil

You're right, 'optimistic' wasn't the right word.

What I should have perhaps said was that those prices are slightly higher than the ones previously sold on the forum. I think generally - although not always - I think people offer things for sale at a better rate on here to help out other Defender enthusiasts (those who like it enough to join a Forum) whereas eBay its for general sale and it's about getting the best possible price (although bargains can be had... I got one today Very Happy )

Agree - it is not unusual for people to get caught up in the moment on ebay and end up paying more for a second hand item than they could have bought new for the sake of a bit of research.

Selling to an enthusiast through a supportive forum seems a better way to go and doesn't line the pockets of Mr E. Bay and his Pal... Thumbs Up Phil
