Air box mod
Hi folks,

Has anyone had any dealings with removing the hiclone/cyclone inside the air box?

Did you benefit from removal?

I'm running stage 3 on my td5. Currently fitting some Allisport goodies (air intake pipe and exhaust manifold etc)

Current mods are,
Alive hybrid turbo
Full Allisport intercooler
EGR delete
Alive remap
Straight thru exhaust
Silicone hoses
Allisport exhaust manifold
Allisport air intake pipe
Boost set to a safe/reliable 1.4 bar at the moment.

Running a snorkel and tempted to modify air box and maybe even make it a twin inlet. (Until I save up pennies for the Allisport twin inlet alloy air box) 😄

Cheers 🍻 ▀▄▀▄▀▄ "𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒕!" ▄▀▄▀▄▀ 🤠

You pretty much have the same spec as me, except that I have done the airbox mod and upgrade to 95mm air intake.

Does it make a difference? Yes

Is it worth doing? Yes

Are there any negatives to doing the mod? Yes, the cyclone is there for a reason - water separation. I have added a cyclonic RAI top as an alternative.

As an aside, you should also be watching your EGTs with that spec. They can rise really quickly if flooring it up hill.

Thanks for the reply and info mate.
What's the airbag mod? 🤔

Yeah I had read that about the cyclone doo da.
I did also hear that it can lower the torque slightly? I'd be surprised if that was the case.

Are you running a twin inlet air box? Or you have upped the bore of the single feed?

Good shout with the EGTs I must admit that's how iv ended up fitting the Allisport manifold as one of my exhaust manifold studs had popped. (Currently in the middle of doing some of these mods so haven't driven her yet with new manifold and air intake pipe etc)

Thanks ▀▄▀▄▀▄ "𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒕!" ▄▀▄▀▄▀ 🤠

Yes it can reduce low end torque, but that should be offset by the hybrid turbo spinning up quicker and your other mods.

No just a single inlet to the airbox, but it is a much bigger diameter than standard. This should offset the RAI and extra intake length a little bit.

I have had that manifold for 8 or 9 years now and it is super. EGT probe straight into the confluence before the turbo so you get a temp associated with all cylinders rather than with the standard manifold where the probe is outside cylinder number 1.

What exhaust are you running?

Sounds great!
Cool I may have to just go ahead and remove this bloody cyclone thing 😄

What sort of temps are you getting with your EGT gauge on the Allisport manifold?

Oh exhaust system is a side exit from Devon 4x4. As I say just straight thru. Sounds like a Scania 🤣 ... heads usually buzzing after a 30min drive 😵‍💫😆 ▀▄▀▄▀▄ "𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒕!" ▄▀▄▀▄▀ 🤠

Ah so you've gone for the side exit ASBO special exhaust then Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I have just gone the other way and swapped the ASBO for some peace and quiet.

As for the EGTs they sit around 350-450 during normal driving, idle is 160-190, engine braking as low as 85 and full tilt bat outta hell around 800, but only ever for a very short time. The temps are highly dependant on ambient temps and vehicle weight mind you.

🤣 brilliant 👍
Yeah the ASBO side exit usually blows folks hats off as I pass 🚜💨🤣

Cool, yeah must admit she's a heavy auld girl. I'm hoping the manifold won't heat up as easy as it flows better and has gaps between each port compared to the standard one.

Il deffo keep an eye on the temps tho.

Hopefully be posting some pics on here soon of her all back in action. I may have to start cleaning under the bonnet more often now 🤣

If you have a scan through the Miffy workshop thread you'll see posts about the EGT probe Thumbs Up
