2001 Defender 110 Td5 SW Chawton White
Rear left tyre rubbing on spring support
Helllo everyone; I have noticed lately that the rear left tyre on my 2001 110, rubs with spring support only on the left.

My wheels are boost alloy and tyre size is 245/75/16.

The distance from the spring aupport to the wheel is around 6mm on the left and 15mm on the right.

I have recently change the A frame joint and also had a problem with a broken bearing on the left some time ago.

Any ideas where to start?? Augusto

good luck in finding the problem.

is it possible the wrong bearings were used - could it have been an issue that occurred when the bearings were replaced (but simply not noticed at the time) or is it more recent?

Is there any play in the bearings? When you say the bearings were replaced some time ago I assume there was no issue in clearance and this has only recently started to happen. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Can you post some photos indicating where you are taking the measurements?

Thanks for the replies, not sure if the problem was before or after the bearing change.

Thw bearing feels tight no axial play on the wheel,

I will take some pictures later on, but if you feel the inner top side of your tyre you could not put your finger because of the spring support. Augusto

The tyre size seems a little different to any sizes I've ever seen.
Are you sure it's not a tyre that is wider than should be mounted on a Boost alloy.

There is something very wrong with this spring- its not meant to slope over to one side.

Looks like it is not seated properly at the bottom and is pulling the axle off centre

This I assume is the other side?

Looks like ether the a-frame joint is off or one or both springs are not seated properly/one is very bent. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I know it sounds daft but when the A frame joint was put back on you did use all the original arms? Looking at the way the axle is being pushed over it allmost looks like something such as the short arm from the ball joint has been bolted back on one side not sandwiched between the arms as in the picture below.

It's a while since I did one last and I can't remember if you can get the crank on the arms mixed up, might be worth a check
