Transfer Box - Ratio Change
So after a trip to the South of France last year and 2500 miles up to and around the highlands this year, I took the plunge and had the Disco ratio upgrade fitted.

Only driven about 100miles back from Ashcrofts yesterday but I am so far very pleased. Where it felt like she was revving a bit at about 63mph to keep out of the trucks way on the motorway, it'll now sit happily at 70 and keep up with the traffic with plenty to spare.

The cruise control obviously stopped working because of the lower revs but fitted a Speedo Healer last night and all now seems to work like a dream. So far, so good! 2002 Defender 110 CSW TD5

A very worthwhile modification, i fitted a box from a disco 1 to my my 300 tdi 110 when i had it about 10-11 years ago, much better for long journeys, i fitted it before going a trip around the western isles. one of the best land rovers i have had. nobody is perfect but being Scottish is a start

I had mine done just before we went on our holiday this year. I also had a cheeky remap from Mike at Dynachip to restore the acceleration. It's so much better now and at last I have done something to the car that the other half approves of. Shocked

I was also considering fitting cruise control but wondered if the mod would cock it up, which you confirmed it did, but have found a way round it Bow down Did you use a kit for the cruise control or the list of parts and method that's written about on this site Somewhere?

Martin, I used the Speedo HealerV4 from Heal Tech. Got it from Ashcroft at the same time. Nice and easy to wire in too.

Dial222, no need to adjust the speedo on a TD5 as I believe it takes its feed from somewhere other than the T-Box. Not sure about the 300tdi though I'm afraid...I'm sure someone else may know more!

A short run to and from work today and still chuffed with it. It just needs a different driving style. I had an Alive remap last year so been quite use to having short gear changes and keeping the revs low and letting the torque pull you around. Usually into 5th at about 25mph upwards. Now it needs 4th at anything below 30.

Findings so far:
1st needs a few more revs to take off but nothing terrible and not slipping the clutch so no worries there.
2nd is longer and needs to rev a bit more to make sure it doesn't bog down too much into third.
3rd with the old ratios used to be very quick and a lot of fun! But was often the source of lower mpg figures when you were a bit heavy with the right foot. It's now more Defender-like but still plenty of pull.
4th fine for 30 limits and hills.
5th Good for anything over this but not sure how it's going to fair with the CC and hills on the motorway. I wonder if the turbo will be spinning enough for the CC to do its job and pull you up unless I'm doing 70.
Guess I'll find out on the way up to Peterborough at 7am on Saturday!

I wonder if Alive may need to do some fettling with the map to account for the new box? 2002 Defender 110 CSW TD5

I used info gained from this site and a couple of others. Some basic wiring and a Disco switch. I just made sure to check and triple check I was cutting and connecting the correct ECU wires!!! There's some pics of mine here...

mines on a 1.2 and it's great as it spends most of its life on the motorway. I'm also geared up on 33" tyres so 70 is nice and quiet.
Only downside is everyone in a blue moon I struggle with hills with the caravan and have to make sure I hit them with the turbo boosting. I also tow cars occasionally for my best mates garage. but it copes with that fine. 2nd gear starts are no problem
I don't have a remap as the insurance won't let me 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
