People I know who plug them in, are constantly monitoring and worrying about stuff they never knew about before and their truck has always run fine (and since)! Ignorance is bliss. |

Not worried, just want to make sure the reading is correct i.e for the MAF and want to understand what the cylinder balance is all about. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I've no need talk really. I drove from Northwich in the heat yesterday afternoon and thought the 110 was down on power a little. I thought I should unplug the MAF to see if it made a difference.
A nanocom would of course give me that info, but i just put it down to 'warm air' and spannered on the v8 instead  |

AFAIK, your MAF reading seems correct to me.
Cylinder balance, I think they should all remain within the same values, ie not one going completely off range. These can fluctuate, but should remain in the 1 digit value range (either positive or negative) when idle. I have a very old nanocom. the gray box thing and almost all switches are just the oposite from what I would expect.
Your Maf reading is about right it might be a little higher, but your 3rd gear full power with high revs reading is more important, just google what it should be. cylinder balance with mine is max about 4 when running constant. If I am correct the balance is about trying to let the engine run smooth so the ecu varies or the timing or the amount off fuel it injects. Your turbo pressure is high for a Td5, so your is probably tuned. Mine peeks at 1,25 in normal mode and 1,35 with my psi power box switched on. I do have a mild Stage 1 tune
 not as noticeable now as it was when I got it done, but I guess I am used to it.

I too am in the if it ain't broke don't fix it camp - ignorance can be bliss - but ignorance in my case tends to cost money
That said, I do think a Nanocom would be a sound investment - albeit I would end up looking for things....... John, how are you finding it? Are you guilty of now looking for things or is it something you have under control? I must say I am tempted to buy one but I know how that story would end |

I am finding it OK. Only used it once while driving, a bit hard to look at the readings while driving.
I have a 2hr ish trip on the cards next weekend for a rally, so will be towing up and down hills and low rev work, so will be taking it with me and mate can watch the screen and see how things look. My main reason for getting it was to make sure all is well and keep eye on things and to make sure sensors are good i.e MAF being one. Once I get an idea what figures should be then I will be content, but for now I will be playing with it a bit! Trying to register with BBS as a new owner and awaiting a reply back. Then will look at latest firmware etc if needed. Another reason for buying it, if i want to get the car checked then it will cost in the region for 30-40 to get scanned, or more if paying local garage fees, now I can do it myself. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Thanks for the response - yes I agree with the preventative maintenance aspect. According to a DJ earlier, it's only 18 weekends until Christmas (I know  ) so maybe Santa might bring me a Nanocom |
