Split charge system
Appologies for another split charge thread!
I have done a search but not found a definite answer. Does anyone have first hand experience of one of these: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/251722319527 and the suitability for a 2015 90 without frying the electrics?
Or alternatively a different system for a similar price?
Main role will be to power a fridge in the rear, occasionally, and one or two power sockets.
Thumbs Up

I”ve got the slightly smaller 80amp one on my 110 ...but just the relay and not the wiring kit as listed (just made up my own with some guidance from the local auto elect)
Just make sure that the ‘cut in - cut out’ voltage is correct ... as my first one had a low setting which was no use for charging the battery.
It works a treat and I hardly know its there charging up my 80amp/hour 2nd battery which is used to power my cab heater and ancillary lights etc.. (but no fridge) Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Thanks Wyvern. When you say your first had too low a setting, do you mean when it connected the batteries or disconnected? I think this one connects at 13.3 volts, and disconnects at 12.65 volts, which for my limited knowledge of split charge systems seems OK.

Simply split charge make nice, simple, reliable split charge systems. As a customer I've been pleased with their components and service.
Whilst I have no experience with new shiney Defenders, I can't see any reason why that set up shouldn't do the job for you.

Autosparks do a very similar kit , which I have got fitted . Have used for years for fridge, lights, etc ,when camping and traveling ,very reliable. Just made up a removable battery box behind passenger seat and wired straight to the battery without anything permanent.

I'm a bit slow with my little projects! Took a bit of head scratching when I started measuring up to get two batteries under the seat. I wanted to keep the original battery, for several reasons:
1.to maintain the warranty.
2. I'm too tight to buy two new batteries when the original is only a year old, and the second will rarely be used.
And 3. I'm waaay too tight to pay the prices people want for twin trays where you then have to buy odessy or optima batteries to fit in them.
However all planned now, on my modest budget, so will post a few pics when I fit, hopefully this weekend. Thumbs Up

I needed one of these fitting, have all the kit ready to go but got told it would invalidate the warranty.

If I'm honest Panda, I haven't asked if it will invalidate the warranty or not.

I'm going to fit it anyway and just hope I don't have a electrical claim. So far the dealer has been very accomodating with modifications.

I'm a rugby man normally, but can't help but join in with the rest of the country for tonights match...

I would be interested to know how you get on with the install. I was thinking of running a cable aft into the load space and fitting the battery there with the split charging system. The seat box is a bit full, with battery and wheel changing kit. Not sure to be honest.

Thanks

Finally got round to fitting the kit yesterday....

The jack and wheel chock have been consigned to a box in the rear.
I removed the old battery tray, drilled out the old mounting studs, and replaced with longer bolts. This allowed me to mount it 35mm further to the left of the seat box, and 40mm further forward. This is its new location - you can see the old mounting hole here sprayed with grey primer

This allowed on of these to fit in the space remaining http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361428027091?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT
This fits with its front edge touching the stud that used to hold the wheel chock down.

One of these fills the role of second battery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301732773258?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT
I realise it probably isn't the highest quality battery, but it was recommended to me by a friend who has one in a VW camper. It also has the advantage of being 175mm tall instead of the standard 190mm

This left the space in the front right corner of the seatbox to mount the split charge relay. I had planned to use J bolts, with a flat bar across the top of the battery to hold it secure, but thought the ones I had were pressing too tightly to the side of the battery, so have replaced with a strap for now.

Very easy system to wire, and the relay made a satisfying clunk as soon as I started the engine.

So it is possible to retain the original battery, and also not to remove the stud that holds the wheel chock. The only non-reversible mods are a few holes drilled in the seat box.
