255 85s
255/85s were made by Cooper for their Discoverer ST a few years ago but sadly that size was not used for new and other models.

Looking on the interest, there seem to be three makes. Maddie, Toyo Open Country, and BF Goodridge MT KM2.

Which of those would be the best replacement for the Coopers? I want a reasonably aggressive AT/MT, say 50/50 or 60/40 off/on road. Not too noisy on tarmac. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Massive thumbs up for 255/85/16 BFG KM2

Been running them since January and i'm very impressed, normal BFG wear characteristics with the new KM2 pattern that reduces noise. Sensible on the road in the wet, I don't have to worry about not stopping like I did with the old BFG MT pattern.

Great off road.

That size is annoyingly very rare over here. In the US you can get the Cooper ST Maxx but you can't here (or at least it isn't on their website).

Maxxis Bighorn is available here though.

I too run 255/85 BFG KM2s and echo what Brewstop has said.

As for the speedo and odo, both are now bang on accurate across the full speed range, whereas before (like all standard vehicles) they over-read by around 8% to 10%.

Comparing my satnav and speedo readings, not much difference, say 3mph max. But it's dial v numerical so not much to worry about really. Difference in gearing is noticeable however. Going from 235/85 to 255/85 higher gearing makes a difference to gear changing road and engine speeds (I also switched from Boost alloys to steel modulars when first uprising) Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world.
