Slickshift
Evening all.

Just received my slickshift in the post today - it looks quite nicely made. Can't fit it yet as my defender is away but I'm looking forward to it!

I haven't really heard anything negative about fitting one but any tips, tricks or experiences whilst fitting or in use?

This is an awesome mod and well worth the money and it is silly simple to install. I put one into my previous LR and took it out to put into my new (to me) 2000 MY 110. Unfortunately the AC plenum and vents impeded the shifting and the newly raised height of the shifter, about one inch, is just enough to cause the shifter to hit it. Sad

As installed on my old SIII Tdi 88 five sped it was just amazing. The short throws are great and there so much less arm flinging. It feels like a car!!! It cuts the shifting movement about in half. That's interesting. I plan to retrofit aircon to my defender at some point so this could prove problematic, although, with tweaking I'm sure I could make it work Thumbs Up

Actually I slightly bent the shifter just a bit to give that 1/4 inch clearance when I have to push it into first when its cold (renowned R380 notchiness). 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Fitting the Slickshift was the best mod I have made to my Td5 Bow down

The air con doesn't get in the way.

Just remember to clean all the old grease out of the turret and re grease with new, take your time with setting up the bias springs.

Did the same to the Tdi and now only minimal movement between gears.

There is a good "how to" video I think on Paddocks site if you bought it from them or even just a general search under "how to" will get you an informative video. I did it so anyone can! Jeff

Shouldn't think so, it just reduces the travel of the long gearstick. That sounds like wear in the drive train. Jeff

just done my first week with slick shift, what a difference!

more dependent on good set-up of bias springs, and won't help a poor shift, but it really makes changes neater and as per the description, slicker!

Agreed with all the above, I fitted one to mine a couple of weeks ago and it's definitely nicer to drive, so much so that my daughter immediately got me to order one for hers.

It fits in my Td5 with the AC with no clearance problems at all Thumbs Up

The only issue I found was that when pulling the old gearstick out of the housing, the spring in the back of the "ball" part went ping and shot off to the darkest receses of nowhere, when I eventually found it, there was obviously a bit missing to prevent the outer end of the spring from wearing against the housing, it took a little while longer to discover the little nylon "mushroom" that goes in there. Doing the same job a second time I knew what to expect Whistle
