This sounds tempting but will it improve the change from 1rst to 2nd on a cold TD5??
Also, what are the exact benefits Confused

No, it won't improve the poor synchro from 1st to 2nd. That is a notorious feature of the R380 and they all do it (to some degree). The Slickshift will reduce the throw of the gear lever in making gear selections, but that's all. It doesn't mechanically change anything within the gearbox, just the relationship between the gear lever and selector. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

The only thing that can help that notchiness is decent oil and regular oil changes. The diff lock evolution oil (which I am fairly sure is just Fuchs 75w/80) does a good job of removing most of the notchiness. Some folks swear by additives like molyslip a do alike. OpieOils pointed me in the direction of Redline oils earlier this week as an alternative, reviews seem very good.

Slick shift going in this weekend...

After ordering the SlickShift from Paddocks it arrived quickly but unfortunately was rusty. Requested to send it back and then advised that the entire stock was showing signs of corrosion, so I've paid but nothing to show for it currently. After speaking to the manufacturers via Facebook (who responded within a few minutes), it appears that this must have been early stock (as new is now grease paper wrapped) and they were then also going to contact Paddocks. Fingers crossed it will all be sorted soon and I can get on with fitting it.

Just came across this thread - interesting!

Sorry if this has been asked before - will this mod fit 2015-16 Defender (I know this is a TD5 thread)? I see reference to "LT77 & R380 ONLY". Being new here I don't know what the latest Defender has. If this doesn't fit, is there a slickshift for the latest Defender?

Got mine today and fitted it this afternoon Very Happy
Not had time to go out and test it yet but even just sat in the back yard the gear change feels phenomenally better with a shorter throw and much more precise. Will let you know how it is on the road when I have driven it (tomorrow).

Thing is....
When I removed the top selector tunnel there was an amount of red oil around the selector.

Should this be there?

Or have I got a leaky seal?

Yep..
What a difference.!!!
I am sure that I could have made some improvement by resetting the tension springs on the standard shifter.
However, the throw between gears is noticeably shorter.
I moved the gear lever round a notch on the spline throwing it a little closer to the driver.

The gear change is much crisper now, more definite and not like stirring soup.

The wife is only a tiddler. 5 foot and half an inch. Don't forget the half an inch.

She is over the moon with these changes as she was really struggling to reach the gear lever and hit the right gear.

Good mod
