Turn up the volume enough and soon you will never hear anything at all. Ever... Mr. Green

Quite!

I have no problem with the viscous fan up front, and the Landy warms up quick enough. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Hi there,

it seems I'm as fussy as you Very Happy
(However, I find the current MINI's ventilation far more annoying than the Defender's... And it has actually become worse compared to my first one of 2002.)

I wonder if a PMW-based electronic solution is really necessary. Currently the fan speed is controlled simply by two resistors. That's very Defender-like IMHO Smile Could we come up with a similar solution?

On the highest setting, the resistors are bypassed. On "2" a 0.55 Ohm resistor is connected, and on the lowest setting a 0.45 Ohm resistor is added, to give a total of 1 Ohm.
Note the (NON/AIRCON) wiring. The looms are different, because the fan is switched on to the lowest setting if AC is switched on, even if the switch is in the off position (wow, there IS some intelligence in our Defenders, isn't there?)

So, thinking out loud, I'd say you could put another resistor/potentiometer in series with the 0.45 Ohm.
Questions remain: should we bypass the AIRCON wire because maybe the AC needs the currently designed fan speed? what are the resistor's power ratings, tolerance etc.?

Macfrank, thats what is needed! Just have to get the resistance value right. If possible leaving the AC out of it. Simple trick for a simple truck....... Thumbs Up 1998 Tdi 90 SW,
