If you're really struggling then luckily there is a great independent L.R specialist just a few miles down the A75 from you at Twynholm.
They are called W.B.GALLOWAY and their number is 01557-860240, ask to speak to Bill, he runs the place. 
Edit... Forgot to mention they have a recovery truck as well just in case you needed recovered to the workshop. 04' 90 Td5 CSW.. |

Update,
After getting it trailered back home got a friendly auto leccy to have a look. Much melted insulation stripping later and full dash removal traced the short back to behind the heater box, two wires had shorted together and caused major damage to the loom further up. It's now back up and running and I have the satisfaction of knowing that it's not going to burst into flames any time soon. Looking at the damage of the wires that were replaced looks like that could have been a possibility. Thanks for your ideas and offers of help. Cheers Chris 300tdi Defender 90 |

No photos just bits all over the floor.
