Transfer box swap... fallen at 1st hurdle - seized handbrake
I recently bought a replacement 2nd hand transfer box attached to a ZF auto box from a Rangie (although I suspect it may actually have been a Disco). It has been in storage for months (possibly years).

I want to swap the transfer box onto the LT77 on my 200tdi.

I started to split the donor 'box yesterday .... or at least I tried to split the boxes and have fallen at the first hurdle. There is absolutely no movement in the handbrake and it appears to be completely seized.

So how do I free off the drum to allow me to remove it? Is it just a case of knocking 7 bells out of it until it submits or is there anything else I can do?

Does the drum rotate at all? Have you wound the shoe adjustment off? There's normally a fair amount of adjustment which will release the shoes from the rust on the drum. I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
