Hi, I get somewhere around 500km (310 miles) before I need to fill up. Generally the fuel gauge seems to be pretty linear too. I do a fair amount of open road / steady speed motoring, but yesterday for example I filled up at 516km (320 miles) and needed to put in 49.8l (10.9 gall). That's a shade under 30mpg so I'm pretty pleased with that.

I would be more than happy with that, Mines a 110 so maybe a bit less anyway. I've worked out before buying 25 would be the average. Having had normal cars that did over 50 its something I can live with. Its quite nice NOT having a computer telling me as in previous cars it just uses the fuel and when the light comes on I will fill up 
So far I'm on almost 200 miles almost on half a tank. So if the last half gets 100 or so that's ok  |

I have a 2.4tdci 90 with 21,000 Miles on the Clock. Fuel Consumption: Average over the last 12,000 Miles 25.6 MPG Best 30.3 MPG Steady 60 MPH Motorway Journey Worst 23.4 MPG Towing Land Rover Work Shop Manual: States Fuel Tank Usable Fuel 90 Models 60.00 Lts / 13.20 Gals 110 & 130 Models 75.00 Lts / 16.50 Gals The real fuel tank capacity is about 5 Lts more than these figures the advice is not to use the last 5 Lts to avoid limp mode / fuel starvation. Fuel Gauge: Is linear I would say overall, always close to 150 Miles at the 1/2 way point. If you fill right up the Gauge appears not to react for the first 20 or 30 miles then there is steady reduction down to the warning light, it might appear to run out more quickly as there may be a degree of 'fuel anxiety' at this point. I have also driven around 25 Miles past the low fuel light with no issue. Observation: My MPG did improve as the engine went beyond 10,000 miles. we have a 2.4 TDCI 110 and it tend to give about 400 miles per tank (full to brim),
on a long run at no more than 50mph with good quality fuel it achieved 450 miles out of the tank !! (I've not done a MPG check as that may upset me !! ) 125k on the clock and a lot of motorway mies with a BAS standard re-map. Yeah, same here. Between 300 and 350 miles. It doesn't seem to matter what you do, short or long journeys, it stays around the same figure. The only time it really drops is when doing over 60mph, the faster you go the more it drinks. We drove out to the Apls a couple of years ago and did 70 on the way out, 60 on the way back and used a lot less fuel on the way back, a couple of tanks worth (from memory). It wasn't one of those times when you calculate the difference because it's so small, it was instantly noticeable how much extra range we were getting by slowing down.

I run a 2.4 110 hardtop, and I generally get about 30-31 mpg. I commute about 15 miles each way to work,with a mix of dual carriageway and town driving. I've only run into the fuel light once (fear of running out) but seem to recall it was about the 450 mile mark or so. In town I run with the traffic, but on the open road I tend to sit around 55-60mph which I think helps. Compared to some other motors, the economy isn't great, but it's better than I was expecting!  |

I reckon on 400 miles +/- 10 miles in normal use from a full tank before the light comes on.
That is with a 2007 110 DC running on 255/85x16 KM2s, with a BAS map (no EGR, no cat) Patriot rack, and running at around 3 tonnes gross. BAS map, EGR deletion and decat all made small but noticeable improvements in fuel mileage. Keeping the speed under 60 on long runs makes a massive difference to fuel mileage. |

Fuel gauges are NEVER even remotely accurate,fuel up at the very most when your light comes on or when you reach the red/orange bit....tbh,it's NEVER good to drag the dregs of your tank thru the fuel pump anyways,so fuel up before the light/coloured bit. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

But surely the fuel is taken from the bottom of the tank even when the tank is full? Could there still be crap in the tank?

When I decided to buy a Defender I worked on getting 25mpg average, over my 'normal' car average of 38mpg it makes from memory around £500 difference over my yearly millage.
Not too bad really, Ours will be heading to Annecy next year and a trip we have done many many times, I guess this will be the slowest trip in the Landy.... However we are planning rather than just the usual toll roads all the way to take in a more scenic route through various country's to show the kids something different. Should be good fun. |

Not wanting to say too much at the risk of being on the receiving end of a lot od abuse but there are a couple of threads on here by someone suggesting 500 and even 600 miles is possible on a standard tank (110).
Do a seach for '500 is possible'  |

Now that would be nice.
however I guess that's a real steady run from the start at 50 / 55 mph? I had a normal car with a long range tank (think 90L) at one fill up the range said over 1000 miles....
25mpg I will live with any more a bonus |

Result
Filled my Defender for its 1st tank in my ownership today. Since my 'normal' car I've been driving it as I would that. its doing the school runs, trips to work (lanes and motorways), longer motorway trips. 'Sprinted' in the lanes progress.. and I would it up to (cough) 80+ (kph you understand) Anyway, worked off fuel in since last fill up and range its 29mpg. I'm happy with that !! |
