Mantec Snorkel - How much does it slow you down?
Has anyone any direct experience of the Mantec snorkel and how much power it saps from the engine? Can you feel a difference when driving day to day?

I like the look of them and am a little tempted... but tbh the Defender is hardly a speed machine and not sure I could cope with going even slower haha!

Brings us back to a question that has been asked before......

Elephant's trunk (Safari) or Trilby hat (Mantec)?

Mantec sits higher on the wing.....

Whilst the Safari is a more uniform fit on the wing.

Not a Mantec but also no noticable difference.
The original inlet to the airbox is extremely small anyways. It's a miracle the engine is still able to suck up the air needed... Whistle

It'll easily sap a few HP but like said above, not enough to notice.
Saying that, I wonder if insurance companies class it as a "performance enhancement"? Whistle --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No actually according to rolling road figures they knock off a little BHP but it's negligible so you wouldn't notice

Instead of the Mantec plastic jobbie, as it is called, why don't you go with the old or even the new style mushroom head RAIs? The diameter of those seem more consistent as not to maybe restrict the airflow as compared to the newer style which looks narrow?

Got a bearmach (mantec copy) installed, and while driving no changes felt.
I'm pretty sure when you test it on a dynamometer you'll see you lost some horses though. 28/02 - Loss of a good friend...

I have never noticed any difference whatsoever but then I have never thought to compare with and without, in fact if you think of it as a ram air (not sure if it works like that) then it is delivering more air and at a slightly lower temperature to the engine, which has to be good, colder air more oxygen, more oxygen better burn. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
