Correct, there was a gold 50th 110 which apparently became bogged and submerged.

I understand from Skip that it is now out...

I guess we'll wait and see if anyone can say further in due course. 2005 110 XS - Cairns Blue "Bertha" - Gone, and sorely missed

Yeah, the gold 110 tried to cross to the quay/slipway on the other side and got bogged.

Despite one of the locals arriving with a tractor and the Coast Guard in attendance, the last I saw of the 110 was its snorkel... Shocked

Very sad to see this, I hope all are OK and that the 110 soon dries out.

I understand that it is a (very) limited edition Ranulph Fiennes model too, so doubly sad. Like this one..?

Apart from that, a very top weekend and thanks to Skip for the organisation. I'm sure photos will appear in due course..Wink

cheers

Brilliantly organised I thought and a great idea. Well done skip. There will be better to follow from the photographer but here's a few of my happy snaps!

Thanks everyone for your kind words Big Cry

I'm glad to say the Gold 110 is alive Very Happy , if not a little damp. I was very lucky, there was virtually no sediment in the vehicle at all, when we first opened the doors I was dreading what I would see. All the dials were still watertight, I had disconnected the batteries and thankfully I haven't suffered too badly.

We stripped out all the lights and as much of the dash as we could get to and WD40 everywhere, because this model has a type of Dynamat everywhere, even the bulkhead it appears to have kept the saltwater out.

Six hours with a hot jet wash, inside and out and amazingly no sea water in either diesel tank nor any in the oil that we could see, having drained out into clear containers. The engine was supposed to be waterproofed but I am surprised even the snorkel seems to have kept water out of the air filter.

I need to drain the axles, gearboxes etc. and get it stripped down and prepared for a full restoration and / or modernisation straight away.

Wish me luck!

Glad to hear that, pretty bad but could have been a lot worse. It's an interesting vehicle in LRs history. I did wander over for a drive through the boats but started to get a sinking feeling long before where you was and fortunately made it back to dry land. Unfortunately for my neighbour, though, as I reversed into their Fiesta when I was messing about moving atuff around at home.

Thanks skip for arranging such a cracking event and to the Lowrangers for providing warmth and shelter and more importantly great humour.

Night all.

Great news, and good luck! Salt water is bad news, if you are able to then get it stripped down as far as possible as soon as possible and wash everything thoroughly that you intend to retain.

That is a fantastic Landy - keep hold of it forever!

Sticky,

Very pleased you managed to get the 110 out without too much damage. It was very sad to see that happen. At least the 110 has had more adventure than it did with Ranulph Fiennes... Thumbs Up

Its a great truck and will be soon back to full health I'm sure.
