I fitted one of these on the front and on the rear http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-amp-600v-Batt...339ebd1725 rather than the seat box as I can use them to plug in lights, power for camping etc and also if and when I get a tyre compressor I can power from out the vehicle 1999 Defender TD5 110

I work in the marine industry and an Anderson connector wouldn't even feature on my list. Whilst they may be convenient, cheap and easy to fit they are not suitable at all for any environment that may be damp, they can arc on connection and corrode like
 .

There are much better solutions but they do come at a premium. You get what you pay for. Marinco or Amphenol connectors are much better suited and intrinsically a damn sight safer. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Would not often disagree with K9F when it comes to electrical matters. However if your Anderson connectors are fitted in the cab then corrosion is not a common problem unless you have a habit of flooding your cab

Seat box is a pain in the bum for jump starting others, so under the bonnet for me.

Don't cabin leaks come as an obligatory option with all Defenders? As stated there are much better options than an exposed connector with little or no protection against dampness. Pay cheap get cheap. I have several (maybe five or six) red 20 or 30 amp brand new Anderson ones in my garage together with a couple of 50 amp blue ones that members can have for free, postage only.

Anderson connectors mounted externally have been used by the AA, RAC, & private recovery operators for years
in all weather conditions & still are, The Marine industry however is a totally different ball game & you would expect something far more durable (& 5x the price  )

I'll third it. Trouble with seat box is it can be problematic getting to it if u were parked beside a wall, I had this trouble on my D4 where the battery is far back on the left. We virtually had to stretch the leads to reach, so I put my plug under the bonnet for maximum reach where ever I was trying to reach. That was in a home made box however you could use a GMB fender locker available from Mud here

Can you post the other ones of the connector going through the seat box? To help with corrosion issues I bought a few of the rubber boots that fit on the back of the connector, however, I'd have to take it to bits to fit and as I've not seen/had any issues, I have still to fit!

Those are what I have on the Andersons along with the cap/bungs that go in the front to cover the contacts 1999 Defender TD5 110
