Puma heater control adjustment
Hello folks,

The range of adjustment on the rotary heater control on my air con 2013 USW gives Hot-Hot-Hot-Hot-Hot-Hot-Warm-Cold and it's pretty tricky to get the warm bit.

Hunters in Guildford say 'that's normal for a defender sir' but they say that about every single thing I've ever taken to them.

Then we argue and sometimes they fix something.

Are they right in this case? I can't see its adjustable in the engine bay.

Thanks. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop

It's a normal characteristic, as are the wild fluctuations in temperature according to what the engine has been doing.

I'd agree with the others on this, hot range for around 80% then a small area where it goes between hot, warm and warmish, then cold. I'm happy with this because previous Land Rovers never had the hot bit. Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Yes that's true. My TD5 struggled to heat up but I assumed this was an adjustment problem but apparently not. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop

Five clicks from cold is about right, maybe one either way depending on how hard you're driving.

Perhaps fitting a MUD heater deflector might help by deflecting the heat away from your leg and the handbrake ?

Is there anything that can be done about it? Mine does it too and it's really annoying.

It's like Land Rover decided that too many people were complaining the heater was too cold so they'd just make it too hot all the time.

Don't know if the Transit has the same heater valve but not only does my Puma do it but my Transit based Motorhome does a similar thing. Not had a look to see if the MH has the same valve

Guess the only fix is to change the heater valve to either another manufacturers or if there is a 3rd party aftermarket one. Craig Rogers

You really want some kind of thermostatic valve, and I don't know of one. A big part of the problem is that the engine temperature fluctuates considerably when running.

You will also usually find the air discharged into the LH footwell is a lot hotter than that in the RH since the heater matrix is always several degrees hotter on the inlet/outet side (the left). There is a completely ineffective LR bodge -sorry, solution - for this, which really isn't worth the considerable effort required to apply!

It is one of the many quirks that makes Defender ownership special and unforgettable, and every journey an adventure.

My last transit with the 2.4 had no issues with the heater, it worked great! My puma on the other hand is just like the rest a fine line between hot and cold Shocked
