LandRover Assistance (or the lack of)
So my doors won't open when I use the remote fob, instead I get a loud creeching noise from all the doors and they remain locked. After 10 mins it decides to let me but the vehicle is now immobilized. I can't use the key to get in either as the lock seems jammed. I call LandRover assist at 1430 and they tell me that a LR technician will be with me between 1800 and 2000 this evening. I then get a call at 1700 telling me there technician has just finished a job and now much go to another job before getting to me. The other job is 3 hours from my location and the technician has to be finished by 2000 when he knocks off for the day. No other technicians available until morning, but we can send the AA to you. Explain that I need to get to work in the morning in the Defender and he asks me how flexible work are in letting me start late! So the vehicle sits on my drive immobilized. A £32,000 lump of metal that I can't use. Is this really the service I paid for?

The above is from the LR Assist webpage. So what happened LR, perhaps someone can enlighten me please?

Spray some wd40 in the lock barrel and turn it back and forth for a minute or two until it releases then try the fob. If it still doesn't unlock use the key to open the door and the fob will have still turned off the immobiliser so it should still be drive able then when you get to your destination lock with the key.

Maybe get back on to them and say you need a vehicle providing for tomorrow. Had a similar one when mine broke down (the first time Sad) - was a Sunday, the LR Assist guy came out around lunchtime, his fix didn't hold and was on my way down the M5 at around 1800 when it went again. As well as recovering the vehicle, because I needed to travel the next day, they delivered a hire car that night (a FFRR Very Happy) which arrived around 2230. 2013 Defender 110 XS DCPU

You got to love LR. Suggesting that the LED festoon bulbs in the interior lights is causing the central locking to malfunction! I feel a battle coming on!

Hundreds [If not Thousands] of us have fitted LED replacements into the interior lights without any issue whatsoever lol ..... Laughing

Mine been done for over 5 years ... Rolling Eyes Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

So, my Defender went into the dealers again on Saturday. Same problem, vehicle stands for 3 days and there is not enough juice to crank the engine over. Tested 3 times now by LRA and the AA. Battery appears to be fine and there is nothing drawing any power. AA bloke reckons a charging problem. LRA think the start of a dodgy battery. Dealer wonders if he washed his socks tonight would they be dry by morning Rolling Eyes Any thoughts guys?

Border this from your description is now a different problem to the original? You can now get in but it won't crank?

Sorry I should have been clearer. Initial problem was flat battery which then somehow led to a central locking fault. Since then the CL works ok but the battery is flat. Dealer is clutching at straws suggesting Scanguage and LED interior lights! I reckon the battery is on the way out, but they won't change it as the battery tester says the battery is fine. They will keep getting it back until it's fixed. It will be costing JLR a fortune in hire cars from Enterprise. Pity no one looks at the holistic costs!

Sounds like a power distribution fault to me, perhaps even BMS. Have you asked them what DTC's are coming up? An engine to TDi for!

Could they or are they doing a load capacity test on the battery? What sort of tester are they using? I have a Clarke tester for that very purpose, crank the resistance up to three times the ampere rating of the battery and ensure the battery copes with the load for a specific time. Smells like a toaster afterwards due to the heat generated from the loading.

The main dealer will be using the standard JLR equipment EXP-1080 battery tester. It's a clever bit of kit, but it has limitations! What the battery tester says, goes! If it says it's a good battery after a test, it won't be replaced, simple as! That's JLR for you! An engine to TDi for!
