Nice one Eric.... Laughing

Really you don't know???? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter That is funny....

"Pig Ugly" is still slightly more diplomatic (albeit over a totally unrelated brand and shape of light to what this topic is actually about) than a description of the condensation filled 8700 J W Speakers given by another forum member...

Whilst your obvious feelings for EVOs are strong remember they too have been plagued with issues Eric....needless to say these too are not the latest generation but as far as I see it they've all had issues to date....

Ultimately based on my own experience I will not be sticking with JW Speakers in the long term, other members too have moved on from J W Speakers one even selling a brand new warranty claim set of J W Speakers to move on to Noldens. Whilst their light output (along with other makes) are unquestionable their build quality certainly was. This information is very well backed up too and speaks volumes about which perhaps is best in overall practicality and functionality. Time will tell if the Noldens are any good hence the reason I am waiting......I bought my J W Speakers too early without sufficient data or feedback at that time. Lesson learnt..... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Well, to recap above...
--> Heatshot... I indeed don't see any problem of that kind of a weakish spray onto the lens of any headlamp, be it a standard H4, a WIPAC cristal, or any of the LED lamps.
--> EVOs plagued with issues... Any concrete detailed example backed up with pictures like some on here are readily and repeatedly posting for the generation 1 JWS, while often just writing about JWS in general? (generation 1 problems I am the first to admit as have seen proof posted repetitively)
--> As to proven light output of the Nolden... I can only refer again to the comparative pictures which I also have added to an earlier post in this thread. Which do show undeniable differences in output and pattern, but unlike some others I think it is better to let people make up their own mind about what they see in those pictures and in different pictures posted by others.

As said before, I have no problem whatsoever with choice anybody makes, but I do have problems with comments and statements which resemble very much a case of mud throwing. Live and let live, no? Thumbs Up

Live and let live yes. Thumbs Up

It will not just be light output that will make people buy a particular brand......

This thread whilst being a comparison has concentrated mainly on light output. Output for me has never been questionable as the J W Speakers were far far superior over standard and the actual figures of no real interest. Nevertheless, quality and historical experience should not be limited to the current generation of light or discarded especially when there is irrefutable evidence of a history of problems with previous generations surely? This cannot be construed as 'mud throwing' (I am not sure where this is being aimed at?) but factual! Time will tell if J W Speaker have ironed out historical issues with the EVO 2s or if the Noldens can hold their own against moisture ingress and corrosion. It is currently too early to tell for either brand but J W Speakers have had a head start on this and it should now be sorted despite the IP rating not changing, which for me as a marine engineer is both surprising and disappointing perhaps?

What's the point of a comparison thread if all aspects of the subject matter and their experiences are not explored or experiences shared?

I still like TJ's quote.....

You keep talking about problems with previous generationS. As in my post to which yours is responding, I would be interested to see concrete info/pictures of such specific problems with the EVO, and not just with generation 1. I have a vested interest in the EVO, as that is what I'm running.

Daniele I believe has also 'moved away' from J W Speakers.....

By the way, nolden case quality seems better.....

If you look closer the JWS, in my opinion, the company have quality problems and not all pieces was made with the same precision (eg different beam pattern)

The evo ones suffers from the SS contact but a good anticorrosion grease solve the problems.

I don't have any vested interest apart from the fact I own a set of J W Speakers and wish I didn't. Interestingly my second quote in one of my previous posts was written by yourself was it not confirming there were a limited number with issues?

Regularly inspect your lights including taking them out periodically would be my advice and then you may be able to deliver concrete solid evidence of their improved quality yourself.

That was just a comment based on someone else's sayings. Frankly don't remember who that was, maybe it was Daniele's.
Any other known cases with the EVOs than Daniele's? Could be the exception which proves the rule. My EVOs in any case are still picture perfect front and back.

Interesting.....Did you apply the paste as suggested in a previous thread or just fit straight out of the box? Also what rings did you fit powdercoated, stainless? Is your vehicle kept outside? This does appear to make a difference in my opinion. All contributing factors. A couple of pictures perhaps of yours next time you inspect would be welcome too.

I keep referring to TJs quote about what works for me is the best.

Functionality over form for me! Whilst the J W Speakers are the best looking in my opinion with all the trials and tribulations I've had with mine coupled together with the fact I will eventually need to replace them......based on my experiences Eric should I go for another set of J W Speakers and if so.....why?

There is nothing really interesting about mine being perfect after several years, I consider it just normal. That is how they should be, and frankly by my knowledge only Daniele has complained about the EVOs here. Hope he actually was really talking about the EVOs and not about the generation 1, as yourself and Brian....
Maybe your perfected search engine can throw up more concrete EVO problem cases backed up with photos? I can't.

As to your questions about my situation, no paste used at all, but I did use SS rings from Mobilecentre. As a matter of fact later on I still bought a pair of black powdercoated SS rings from Naka, but sofar did not bother to install those, just lying around as spares. My vehicle is usually parked under a well vented carport or in a large dry garage with plenty of airflow. Lucky me.
But I do drive in the rain, and not only when it is dry. With the SVX it is extremely easy to inspect the back of the lights, you have clear visibility to the back of the lamps with a flashlight,no need to take them out. All is well.

You will consider it normal....and so you should after shelling out so much on a quality set of lights....what you don't have is previous experience of the brand. I considered it abnormal the first time my lights filled with condensatiion...believe you me Eric should your lights fail to live upto your expectations it will be a long way to fall and your attitude and opinion will change drastically. As did mine!

I doubt we will never find this out but I wonder what the 'return rates' are with regards to the previous generation of lights. Also there are well documented other issues with J W Speaker supplying lights for a different marque that have flickering power supply issues.
As stated it's too early to decide how good the latest ones are and feedback especially negative will manifest itself soon enough on here if there will be any.
Enjoy your purchase and let's hope anyone that do buy any do not have issues historically experienced with any generation that they end up fitting. Thumbs Up

J W Speakers thankfully are no longer the 'be all....end all' of LED lighting and we all have a choice which is a much better position to be from where I'm currently sat.. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Flickering power supply issues... That is not with Land Rover, only with Jeep, as Jeep are sending pulsed power to the headlamps as opposed to a steady stream, and the new EVO2 indeed have a problem with that. But this luckily is not really our problem, I do not think Land Rover will still switch to pulsed power in the current Defender before ceasing production. Laughing Those Jeeps also have issues with delays (upto 2 seconds) in switching the EVO2 back from high beam to low beam, for same pulsed power reasons.

Next for me is the test in September with our Swiss equivalent of your MOT. The truck will turn 7 then and it will be the first MOT with the Speakers mounted. (Unlike in the UK we get motted for several years at the time, so this will be the second time after the first at 5 years). If, as may well happen here in this Swiss clock run country, our motters will determine that the Defender does not have any type approval to use LED headlamps, I will go back to my original clear Wipacs with the LR upgraded H4 bulbs which I have carefully put into storage. With the landreiziger loom that I have installed, light output should still be more than acceptable.
We will see, said the blind man. Laughing
