Apparently older side lights have 3 fixing holes compared to two for later version.

It's the other way around David, newer 2014 models have 3 holes and older have 2 - Don't know why though ?

I think its the other way round
older lamp( 2 piece lamp ) unit had 3 screw backing and the lense fitted to the backing by 2 screws newer lamp ( lens and backing fixed together ) uses the 2 screws that used to hold the lens to hold the whole lamp |

He's not talking about the lamps he's talking about the plastic surround that goes around the headlight and behind side light / indicator with the louvre in for the horn.
2014 model have three screw holes, 2013 and older have two screw holes Edit - to clarify, we are talking about the visible black screws that hold the plastic shroud on to the body |

With the indicator and sidelight securing the left hand side I wonder too where the third hole may be?

When I replaced my black surrounds with a Brunel 2014 take off from LRI solutions recently I just ignored the extra hole. Dunno why its there but as the black ones were the same weight etc I figured it didn't matter and it doesn't
