Rear quarter window opening ?
Has anyone done or seen a mod to make one of the rear quarter glasses openable ?

I want to be able to open it if even only an inch or so for ventilation for the dog.

It's a 110 hardtop so no side windows to allow this.

I can't think of any way off the top of my head as the glass is like a windscreen, held in with a rubber seal.
Maybe you'd have to make the whole panel hinge?

Whatever you do you'll have to combine it with a window guard as we'd hate to hear of your pride and not being taken.

Other alternatives would be the fitting some sort of sun roof or hatch? Cheers, David

What's those spinning vent things that normally go on the roof of vehicles with animals in?
Done some research look at this:

I don't like the roof vents because of the height increase.

Something so the hound can stick his head out really. He likes to have the head out and bark at everyone Razz

You may find that an opening window in the rear tends to draw fumes into the vehicle. This is supposedly the reason the dash vents were made standard from MY1954 - to allow the vehicle to be driven with the tilt's rear curtain rolled up.

It may not be so bad with a little window, but you don't want to asphyxiate the dog.

I know the dog won't be able to stick his head out ( unless it's a very big dog ! ) , maybe fit a sunroof in the back

Never thought of the fumes issue, just as well if asked.

He currently sits in the passenger seat and duly disperses hairs everywhere which requires weekly hoovering, you can guess the issues there Rolling with laughter

Vince, no problem, the wife then sits on your lap, you open your driver side window, and she has fresh air too. Rolling Eyes Laughing Thumbs Up
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Although I see your point I cant see that being an issue now as I normally drive my 2.4 with just the back rolled up and no fan on or vents to open and am still very much alive Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

Early Defender models had two high level vents above the rear door to assist movement of air through the vehicle. Perhaps you can adapt this idea instead of introducing an even easier way of forcing entry into the vehicle. Steve.

Interesting. I do find in the Series Ones that there is a bit of an exhaust smell in the vehicle if you drive with the rear curtain rolled up, but a more significant consideration is the amount of crud that is drawn in, especially if it is at all wet outside. I guess with a non-DPF-equipped diesel there is also a consideration with the possibility of potentially-carcinogenic particulate from the exhaust being drawn in.

It may well not be a consideration to the OP but I felt it was worth mentioning since I'd hate for the OP the asphyxiate his dog! Thumbs Up
