Hi folks,
I'm new on here.... I'm looking at a tidy x reg 110 station wagon. I like the 2010 station wagon interior, dash, carpets, etc etc. Can I retrofit these to the 110??? Also looking at putting in electric windows and heated windscreen.......... I know that it won't have aircon, and that's fine, so I know I'll have some extra switch stations unused... Cheers for any advice received. AndyR |

Hello ROBBONTHEROCK
Yes to all the above...but a near complete interior swap is not a low cost or quick thing to do. I know someone (not on here...in-fact not on anywhere) that bought an insurance write off 2011 110 XS with a perfect interior, it had been hit hard on its front end whilst parked (no one in it). He progressively swapped most of the interior into a late 110 TD5 starting with the dash, seats, heated windscreen, carpets etc. the complete doors including electrics where swapped in full and the TD5 was eventually resprayed... the reality of actually doing this is not to be underestimated as a correct wiring loom or lengthy modifications to the existing electrics may well be needed...but it is possible. The AC is also possible, but it's a long list if you actually go through it... maybe worth trying to find a vehicle that has this as standard if possible. Thanks for the info, seems like I'd be better off looking for a 2010 model?? Any major advantage the x reg defender has over the 2010 model apart from better interior? Cheers Andy |

I'm going to use it as my daily driver to and from work, the missus has her 10 plate RAV as the main family car. Just wondering what to expect......my options.... Good condition 110 x reg station wagon, with 160k on the clock £8.5k Or 90 XS 2010 with 19k on the clock, but costs £21k.......has never been off road..... I'm tempted with the 110 on a pure cost play, the owner says he has fitted a disco transfer box and remapped the ecu with JE Coventry. Any thoughts on the remap? Thanks in advance gents. Andy |

The 110 sounds like a truck from heaven. JE map with a disco box, exactly the same as mine. Will cruise at 85 all day spot on. Do it.

Any issues with off-road with the disco transfer box?
What does it really mean? I'm no apprentice mechanic, I know my way around a car, but I'm not sure of the significance of the transfer box swap. Where can I read up on this swap? I'm planning on doing some green laning etc, any issues I need to be aware of? Cheers Andy |

Off road won't be any different in low range, but can be slightly more sluggish in high off road.
The reason for the change of box is due to the higher gearing, so that at cruising speeds are done at lower revs, quieter. Andy |

My thoughts, as someone who has just sold a Td5 with 166 thou miles on, is how much other stuff, apart from trans box has been changed?
If you don't know it could be a lot. By my 166 thou miles, I'd changed both diff's, g box, tran box, prop, exhaust, all four callipers, discs, clutch, flywheel, all suspension, springs, bushes, steering shaft, drop arm, MAF, loom from acc pedal to ECM, injector loom, injector seals, hand brake system, front seats, central locking actuator, battery, and I'm sure much more. So how many parts on the 110 that are 160thou mikes old? How handy are you at doing your own work? At 19thou miles, it's as good as new. Quieter, six speed box, better doors, nicer seats, better heater, heated screen, air con. Andy |

Only problem is I don't want to spent 20k
I do like the idea of the 110, I'm not fearful of the ongoing maintenance costs associated with the truck. I have a 14 year old passat which I do all the work on It now, I'm just looking for my first landy I can use and abuse a bit, before trading upto a new model in say 3 years time. I use to run around in a 90 county in 2000 as my work van, I blinking loved it........it wasn't the best motor for very cold weather but she never ever let me down. Incidentally any mods available on the heater circuit? Cheers Andy |

As a few have said,I think your gonna have enough work to do with a 14 yr old Defender with 160k on the clock without fitting (battling) a Puma dash.Save your TIME/money for repairs/upgrades.Also,unless you do a proper restoration on the bodywork,a brand new shiney dashboard gonna look a bit daft along side rotten doors hanging off, flakey paint and dents everywhere. You won't be able to buy a NEW (if you're talking "new" as in "new"!) Defender in 3 yrs time,..unless you order it by mid next year you could be out of luck as the last one will roll down the line on 20th December 2015. Pickles. |
