Memory Foam Seats?
Hello guys!

So, my rear seats in my defender have lost there sponginess to the point when you sit on them you feel like your sat on the hardboard base, because effectively you are!

Looking around at my options, which are re-foam kit, new seats or TDCI seats my options come down to re-foam seats as my budget has become a bit tight this month (and I'm probably going to end up doing it net month!)

looking at them, they are just squares of foam with a slant on the front, not difficult to replicate so instead of buying new foams i cracked an idea....

Why not use memory foam?

Can be bought online cut to shape for about the same money as an exmore re-foam kit so why not try it?

or maybe even half standard hard foam with a memory foam top?

Are there any fire implications of doing this or has it been banned?

Or am I onto something and should do it and report back my findings Very Happy

Hope all is well!!

Dog

Difficult one?

You can buy a refoam kit which is fit for purpose and do the job? Or for the same money you can have a stab using memory foam yourself?

If you have the time and will get more satisfaction out of doing it yourself why not have a go? I probably would.
If not just get what you know will work.

Not much help I'm afraid but just my pennethworth. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Quick tot up works out as:

Exmoor Refoam - 33 Pound plus shipping

Memory Foam - 22.30 inc packaging but if I buy more than one comes down to 19 Pound

Starting to think 33 pound is a lot of money per seat for a wedge of foam....

Try a local furniture upholsterers you'll never cut the foam exactly how you want it at home without the correct tooling. I used a local upholsterers ages ago when I did my own cubby top modification. FCX even commented that I would never make a go of it as a trimmer.

@ Rich - Exactly who I was using! As they are the standard series 3 squares in a defender rear seats I recon I can't go to far wrong (famous last words!)

@K9- Good shout though to make up a hot wire isn't too difficult. Ill Look into it at lunch when I'm not typing from a machine Shocked

Thats who I use for any foam we need . The cutting is neat and done to yourexact size. There are others but the cutting can be rough in my opinion they are best for quality and price have you cconsidered using hakf recon and half memory foam it would give a firm yet confotable base. And should last the life of your vehicle
