Shocking customer care from accessories dealer
Bought many items over the years from. rebel 4x4 . These new rear light guards fitted to immaculate 110 are poorly painted and prepared so rust set in very soon after purchase . Sent pics to Rebel and they didn't reply , so I called them .
I was told that they could have been anywhere and they didn't care about the mess and wouldn't be replacing them , " go and tell trading standards and open a case " is what I was told . Then they hung up without letting me talk to the manager . Shocking care and communication skills . I won't be back . Rubbish .

now then, whats just happened here is that guy has lost rebel at least one new customer. ME. i was thinking about a rebel steering guard, for no other reason than to give them a try. but if thats their attitude to you, it might well be the same to me too. So I wont be risking it now, and will go with the many many many highly recommended suppliers!.
cheers!!
ps
hope they lose plenty more through this too! My 109 thread

Different retailer.... I too had an issue with paint finish on lightguards, I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of complaining and mine I sorted myself with minimal hassle. I then 'brushed' on the subject on a further post and the retailers post was great, and he saw me right with a future purchase..

Ring up again and just ask to speak directly with the manager.

If you get no joy just slate them everywhere!

I contacted them once about a snorkel rubber pipe (the little 9" piece that goes from the wing section up to the windsreen section,) for another make of snorkel, can't even remember now what it was, might even have been genuine parts or one I made up, eitehr way, I just wanted to buy that one piece of pipe.

Got the F.O pill from them, wouldn't sell me the pipe, wanted to know where the snorkel was from originally and that I should go back to them.

Sounds like they just have lousy customer relations, but sell enough tat in the magazines to make up for lost sales.

Keith doesn't state how old these parts are/date of purchase or what treatment they have been subjected to - both key factors in determining the fitness for purpose of the goods purchased.

One factor of the interwebby is ....... it is very easy to complain to a global audience about poor service and shoddy products.

As mentioned how long is a short period? LR sell the exact same things pretty much and they don't last a couple of years if that in good condition.
I know because i had a genuine LR (ladder and guard in one) and ended up stripping it last year to re do it properly but in the end the costs were too high and effort to much for me to bother personally but sold it so they can sort it out if they find use for it.
Powder coated mild steel is rubbish! The slightest mark into it and it will rust and the best part is everywhere sells it not just Rebel.
I wouldn't be put off myself but I can understand the frustration, I have issues with BoB right now at the end of the day I want the goods and not a refund... Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Met these guys at a show many years ago
Miserable bunch of tw@s
Tried asking a few questions with cash in my pocket
Ended up spending elsewhere
Funnily enough the same weekend bought a bumper from scrapiron racing
Renowned tw@s. Couldn't have been better service

Thanks for the heads up Keith,

I rang them to query an order of my own for similar gear and referred them to this blog.

They said they had no idea about your complaint but that it would be easy for me to have my own order "repainted and rustproofed" myself if I was that concerned about quality but they could not give me an idea how weatherproof their products I ordered from them actually were.

When they said "we have received no complaints before" I gave that the finger and demanded a cancellation.

They refused to refund the full purchase price - 10 minutes later my American CC company reversed the full transaction plus all transaction and exchange rate costs.

Fukkem.

I'll contact 4X4 Overlander tomorrow and see what they have in stock, I've never had any issues with them before. ****CENSORED****

I was informed by my local blasting and powder coating company that the reason a lot of accessories like these mentioned rust prematurely is that they are not grit blasted before coating to save on costs.

I personally prefer to buy parts uncoated and get grit blasted, hot zinc sprayed then coated myself locally for peace of mind.

Its Like SGH says
All this sort of cheaper powder-coating is done straight over the new metal, which as you know from handling it is smooth and oily so it never adheres properly. Meaning it either rusts through or peels off in sheets.
Personally this Is why I prefer a galvanized finish or stainless or as mentioned buy it raw and finish it yourself.
I cant understand why these companies do it to themselves as would only take a polite answer even if its not what you want to hear!
Cant say i'd of used them as a company anyway really as don't really like or need their products, but from hearing reviews like that it puts you off. I know I'd rather pay a bit more from someone like 4x4 overland on here for the parts that are willing to help! Defender puma dormobile camper

I have front and rear guards on my 2007 defender, they were fitted by LR from new and after 6 years were beginning to show signs of rust, I had them blasted and powder coated for 10 for all 4 they look as good as new Thumbs Up - my point - it took 6 years for them to start looking bad

Totally agree with this, my local powder coaters always shot blast the scale from the mill and the rust off any parts they treat.
All our fabricated works also get shot blasted before going to the galvanizers. The scale from the rolling mill has to be removed before any coating is applied.

If these items were galvanized in the first place it'd never happen, I'd pay extra in the first place if it was offered not cut costs.
There's few out there that do though..
FF are one of the few that you can get galvanized bumpers from but the trouble is they don't sell the galvanized and PC'd just one or the other. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

.
I purchased the lamp guards as new from the company . They went on to my brand new October registered 2012 110 2.2 . As mentioned , impeccably maintained and polished weekly . Even changed the horrible little bolts supplied with them for stainless as they rusted within weeks . No excuses from the company , they are rubbish quality and as mentioned poor customer care .
